After sending her away, Laila dyed her hair black, gathered the protective tools Brian had given her, and set out on her journey.

To be honest, Laila didn’t fully trust either her own knight or Millay’s knights. Yet she was well aware that acting alone—being neither skilled in combat nor swift of foot—would be tantamount to suicide.

Thus, she carefully observed the knights beside her, trying to determine who among them was the most reliable.

The following evening, Laila again stayed at the lodging Brian had arranged and was presented by him—with whom she requested a private audience—with what he claimed was the safest escape route.
