Adrian ran a hand through his hair and let out a sigh.

He somewhat understood why Rilvan was acting this way, but he still felt uncomfortable hearing him speak ill of Laila.

Adrian, too, wordlessly glared at Rilvan.

Yet between them—locked in mutual dislike—the victor could only ever be Adrian.

Rilvan furrowed his brow sharply, snatched the bloodstained handkerchief from Adrian’s hand, and replaced it with one from his own pocket.

“I’ll make sure Your Highness’s handkerchief is properly burned. Please rest for a while.”

Just before Rilvan turned to leave, Adrian spoke up.

“Laila will be coming by this evening.”

Rilvan stopped in his tracks and turned his head slightly to look back—a silent gesture asking if there was anything more to say. Adrian then revealed a part of his plans that Rilvan hadn’t known.

“Prepare a ship and its escort for departure tomorrow. Surely this country has at least a few decent mercenaries.”

“A ship and escort?”

“We need to get Laila safely back to Wessex. Who knows what that bastard Reynald might try to do.”

Even if he couldn’t board the ship himself, he wanted to ensure Laila returned home unharmed until the very end.

But apparently, those words only angered Rilvan further. He pressed his fingers firmly against his temple, as if his head were throbbing.

This time, however, he didn’t shout or say anything lengthy. He merely looked at the love-struck Crown Prince with a pitiful gaze and stated the obvious.
