Even if Your Regret Holds Me Back (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 66
Though it was late at night, the sky was restless. The rain that had poured all afternoon, by midnight, fell with such force it seemed ready to tear the earth apart. Even the Grand Duke’s knights had pulled all their external guards inside for the night.
Yet the third floor of the Evergale East Manor was alive with a different kind of commotion.
Classical music flowed from the phonograph, and milky-white lighting brightly illuminated the bedroom. It was a scene utterly detached from the pitch-black world beyond the window.
Natasha, as if the sole inhabitant of this separate realm, held a dress against herself and swayed in a small, private dance. The needle scratching the outer edge of the record gradually moved toward its center.
Just as the music neared its end, a dull thud mingled in. Seizing the cover of darkness, a shadowy figure swiftly opened the window and slipped inside. As usual, Natasha didn’t turn around but scolded him immediately.
“I told you we’d only meet at the villa.”
The uninvited midnight guest was, as before, a man dressed entirely in black. He shook the water from his hair and feigned innocence.
“Oh, come on—with weather like this, even a wild boar could storm in and no one would notice. Besides, your guards here are the slackest.”
“That blasted old man doesn’t care a whit about my safety, does he?”
Natasha grumbled, though her tone betrayed little real concern.
At that moment, what mattered far more to her than the manor’s fusty butler was deciding which of the crimson and yellow dresses in her hands suited her better.
So important was this choice that she’d been agonizing over it for a full hour already. Countless gowns had passed through her hands and now lay scattered across the bed.
It was high time to decide, yet Natasha still seemed dissatisfied, tossing even the two in her hands onto the bed before reaching once more into the wardrobe.
Meanwhile, the man roughly wiped the mud from his shoes and lifted his head. What met his eyes was sheer extravagance. He whistled in awe at the room’s overwhelming opulence.
“Good heavens, isn’t this excessive? Didn’t you say just the other day you were fed up with those snobs constantly picking fights?”
