Ending The Extra Villainess's Unrequited Love! (7 Chapters Left to Complete) - Chapter 12
“How is Diana doing?”
The Duke, seated at his desk handling documents, asked indifferently.
It sounded so natural that one might easily miss the oddity in his question.
Benjamin, the butler, had been compiling a slave registry beside him and pushed his spectacles higher up his nose in surprise.
“Are you… referring to Miss Diana right now?”
He asked in a dazed, disbelieving tone, but the Duke, without even glancing up—as if faced with a foolish question—continued writing and replied,
“Is there another Diana I could possibly be asking about besides Diana de Arnel?”
He appeared as calm as someone inquiring about the lunch menu.
But Benjamin knew better. This was absolutely not a topic the Duke would ever bring up.
“…Miss Diana is doing well. I’ve heard she’s been spending most of her time in the library lately.”
“What about that wolf from back then? Does Diana still keep it by her side?”
“Yes. It seems Miss Diana has been handling it quite well since then.”
‘Handling it well,’ he mused. The Duke recalled the fiercely growling wolf pup.
‘Taming such a creature—unexpected.’
“By the way, that day truly startled me—when you charged into the center of the training grounds. You looked just like the young Lady used to.”
Benjamin ventured carefully, watching the Duke’s reaction. The Duke remained silent, turning his gaze instead toward the small portrait resting on his desk.
‘Meriers.’
Seeing the Duke lost in thought, Benjamin spoke cautiously.
“How about bringing Miss Diana along to the upcoming imperial ball?… I worry she might have taken in a slave out of loneliness. She doesn’t seem to have any close companions, after all.”
Benjamin glanced sideways at him with hopeful eyes—but received no reply.
‘Just as I expected… sigh.’
His hopes dashed, the Duke remained as cold as ever.
Benjamin rubbed his arms against the chill of the office and looked outside.
“Isn’t it about time spring arrived?”
From the spot where the snow had melted into a hazy dampness, he somehow sensed the fresh green of new sprouts.
The silently approaching season was now truly at hand.
[This is the timeline separator]“Drink this while you work.”
Diana set down a glass of juice beside Raoul, who was deeply focused, and sat.
His skills had improved daily, and recently he’d even mastered writing full sentences fluently.
‘With such scholarly drive, it’s hard to believe he was completely illiterate until now.’
She smiled fondly as she watched the back of his head. Raoul’s handwriting was so perfectly straight it looked as if drawn with a ruler.
‘Diligent,’ ‘thorough’—his character shone through unmistakably.
Ever since learning he’d been unable to read or write, Diana had felt strangely conflicted.
‘It’s pitiful… yet somehow also nice…’
She grimaced slightly, recalling the countless love letters she’d written in her past life.
Raoul, your eyes are truly beautiful. They must be greener than the tears the goddess Iona cast into the sea. Your appearance is exceptional, your heart vast and verdant. No matter how hard I try, my feelings for you refuse to stay hidden. Lately, I feel as if I’m standing on my head all day—blood constantly rushing to my face… Please, don’t be startled and run away. P.S. I worry you might not have proper winter gear—it’s so cold. I’d be honored to help.
‘Thank goodness he never saw them.’
“I’m done.”
Before Diana could dig herself deeper into that mental rabbit hole, Raoul pulled her back to the present.
“Okay. Let me check.”
Diana smiled and took his notebook.
‘Even after seeing it every day, his handwriting is still absolutely perfect.’
She felt embarrassed by her own script, refined over twenty years. Despite his youth, he exceeded expectations in everything.
“There’s nothing left for me to teach you—you’re that good.”
“Was I good?”
“Yes, truly excellent.”
Beaming, Diana drew a large, bright circle.
Raoul gazed quietly at Diana’s profile—then, startled when their eyes met, quickly turned his head away.
“…Next time, I’ll try composition.”
Trending
“Already?”
“Yeah.”
‘He really is a prodigy.’
Even considering the simplicity of syllabic writing, his learning pace was astonishing. Truly worthy of a main character.
“Alright. Then from tomorrow, we’ll start practicing composition.”
“Okay.”
“Shall we call it a day for now?”
“…Yeah.”
Raoul nodded, though a trace of reluctance colored his voice.
‘He’s been studying for nearly three hours and still wants more?’
He was truly a talent born in the wrong era.
But today, Diana wanted to end the lesson early—because she had another goal she absolutely needed to accomplish.
“Since class ended a bit early today… would you stay a little longer and do me a favor?”
Raoul tilted his head in confusion.
“…What kind of favor?”
“Would you let me cut your hair?”
From beneath the desk, her hands emerged holding a pair of grooming scissors.
It would have been an eerie, startling sight to most—but Raoul, seemingly fearless, simply ran his fingers through his own hair and asked,
“My hair…?”
“Yeah. It’s gotten so long—it looks uncomfortable.”
She’d been bothered by it for a while but hadn’t dared touch it, fearing he’d dislike it.
After a brief pause, Raoul gave a small nod.
“Alright, do as you wish.”
“Thank you!”
Diana draped a thin cloth around his neck and spread out newspapers on the floor.
“I’ll be careful.”
In an age without hair treatments, his hair shimmered as if soaked in sweet flag water.
She gently pulled his soft ash-gray strands straight and began trimming evenly.
Snip, snip.
Only the quiet sound of scissors filled the peaceful library.
‘Now that I see it up close, his head is perfectly round.’
She couldn’t help but smile at the utterly endearing sight.
The way his bangs fell softly over his straight nose was cute, and his calm, downcast eyes with long lashes were beautiful.
After finishing the back, she reached to brush away stray strands from his face—but Raoul shook his head like a wet puppy.
“Done?”
“…Yeah! I’ll show you the mirror.”
She quickly lowered her awkwardly hovering hand and held up the mirror.
“What do you think…? Do you like it?”
“…I don’t know. What do you think?”
Diana, slightly excited, gushed with praise.
“Your eyes are so clearly visible now—they’re absolutely lovely. Your eyes really are stunning. Just like Ariona’s tears in the sea—”
“In the sea…?”
Diana clapped a hand over her mouth. When she abruptly stopped, Raoul lifted his gaze and stared intently at her.
“What about the sea?”
Biting back her words with great effort, Diana stayed silent.
‘That kind of nonsense would only annoy him. I learned that the hard way in my past life…!’
She forced an awkward smile and rolled her eyes.
“I just meant it looks nice.”
Fortunately, Raoul didn’t press further.
He ruffled his newly shortened hair, clearly unsettled by the unfamiliar length.

Static made his strands stick up messily, looking just like dandelion fluff—so absurdly cute that Diana burst into quiet giggles.
It was a peaceful day.
[This is the timeline separator]The weather had warmed, and full-blown spring had arrived in earnest.
Even the Duke—the only true villain in the manor—had departed for the capital to attend the Founding Day celebrations, and the servants, tickled by spring’s playful breeze, kept bursting into cheerful laughter.
Moreover, much had changed between the two of them.
“What are you doing there?”
The little wolf, who once would have sighed deeply at merely glimpsing Diana near the training grounds, now approached and spoke to her first.
“Oh, I just happened to pass by… Sorry, am I interrupting?”
“It’s break time anyway.”
Vincent, who’d been polishing his sword behind them, also broke into a wide grin upon spotting Diana.
“Miss Diana, it’s been a while.”
“Vincent, it really has.”
Diana smiled warmly in return.
Meeting him again after so long, he remained the strikingly handsome man whose presence seemed to stir flower petals in the air.
“I’ve meant to thank you properly for last time, but I never got the chance to visit you personally. Please forgive me.”
“Oh, no! It’s nothing… I just listened—you did everything yourself. There’s nothing to thank me for…”
“Without your backing as a noble lady, who would have dared speak up? You accomplished something admirable.”
“Ah, don’t say that…”
She wasn’t being modest—it was simply the truth.
Embarrassed by the excessive praise stemming from her status as a duke’s daughter, Diana flushed and waved her hands awkwardly.
Raoul, abruptly forgotten between them, fixed his gaze on her reddening face.
Vincent, who’d been heartily praising her merits, now looked down at his unusually silent student.
A new spark flickered in his usually calm eyes.
“So, Angela also praised you a great deal—said you handled things wonderfully this time. I heard about it myself and was truly grateful…”
“Miss, please lower your speech. It’s fine.”
“Oh—sorry! I rarely interact with knights, so… I forget to adjust my tone.”
“Ah, I see. Haha. It’s alright—I only mentioned it because I worried you might feel uncomfortable. Please don’t mind.”
Vincent placed a casual hand on Raoul’s shoulder, as if urging him to smile—but Raoul didn’t flinch. His eyes stayed locked solely on Diana.
Vincent was the first to sense the strange current.
He raised an eyebrow once, then firmly yanked Raoul’s shoulder toward him.
“But aren’t you curious about this kid’s sword training?”
Raoul frowned, clearly uncomfortable.
“What are you doing?”
Vincent grinned like an overly meddlesome uncle and kneaded Raoul’s shoulder.
“This one’s no ordinary boy, I tell you. I’ve fought in wars since I was sixteen, but I’ve never seen talent like his. The way he channels his spirit—so unlike a child—and his instinct for exploiting an opponent’s weakness during combat… it’s astonishing.”
“…Really? I suspected as much, but I guess it’s confirmed.”
Diana’s voice brightened with excitement.
“He’ll likely be extraordinary once he comes of age—if he continues training properly, that is.”
Diana was quick to catch on.
‘He needs something.’
If it could be solved with money, that would be ideal. She immediately asked as if ready to open her purse right then.
“What kind of support does he specifically need? Even if I can’t help directly, I’d be glad to provide material support. Just tell me whatever you—”
“Enough.”
Diana flinched, startled, and quickly studied Raoul’s expression.
He looked clearly displeased.
‘How dare I thrust kindness on Raoul! He never even asked for help!’
It was an obvious mistake. Diana bit her lip in regret.
Vincent, who’d been happily watching the two, smiled gently.
“No matter how fine a weapon you give someone, if their fundamental skill is lacking, it’s useless. So what this kid needs right now isn’t that sort of thing.”

“Oh… I see. Then there’s nothing I can do to help.”
Diana replied glumly. Vincent clapped Raoul’s shoulder and laughed heartily.
“Who said that? There’s definitely something only you can do, Miss!”
“What… what is it?”
“Love and attention. Did you know this rascal sometimes stares down the hallway during lessons? Haha.”
“You’re insane! What nonsense are you spouting!”
Raoul’s face turned scarlet, and he kicked Vincent hard in the shin.
“Aaah! See that? He acts up because you embarrassed him!”
Watching the two bicker, Diana smiled fondly.
‘They’ve grown really close. I’m envious… being so casually familiar like that… though, Vincent, you don’t really mean that—you’re just spying on me…’
Outwardly, she wore the serene smile of a benevolent Buddha—but inwardly, tears fell silently.
‘Author-nim, can we talk? The mood was perfect—why switch back to surveillance mode again?’
She shook off her bitter feelings and offered her farewell.
She shouldn’t steal any more of their break time.
“I’ll be off now. Keep up the good work.”
Just as she turned to leave—
“Where are you going?”
Raoul gently but firmly caught her wrist.
“That’s not the way to the library.”

Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away
This is also on my reread list!
This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.
Definitely worth a read, y’all!

The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.
But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.
Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.
I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.
The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.
As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
