Die If I Can't Marry Off My Favorite (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 8
“Did… did I really see that correctly?”
“Right now, is that thing protecting a person?”
Asperan was looking at me, the knights were looking at the puppy, and I—
‘No, seriously, why are these people acting like this here?’
I stood there with a sour expression on my face.
Naturally, the one who ended this bizarre standoff was our great sovereign, Asperan Loakin.
Asperan first subdued the puppy.
The moment Asperan glanced at it, the puppy—previously ready to pounce at any second—tucked its tail between its legs and trembled violently.
It was such a pitiful sight it almost made me resent my favorite. Yet Asperan didn’t care in the slightest.
In a flat, emotionless voice, he issued orders to each knight one by one.
“You five, restrain this dog and take it to the research facility. The researchers should be waiting; help them lock it up. Once you’re done, tell every single researcher to report immediately to Kronen Palace.”
“Yes, sir!”
“You, go to my office and bring Kiara and Canis. There should be two researchers there as well—tell them to come too.”
“Understood!”
“And the remaining two.”
Asperan paused there and fixed his gaze firmly on me.
I stared right back at him without flinching. Having just seen him threaten the puppy, I was slightly sulky, so my glare came off as rather insolent.
Asperan narrowed his eyes.
“Put that woman in ‘that place.’”
“‘That place,’ you say…?”
“The place where I keep people before I persuade or coax them.”
“Oh!”
No wonder their conversation had sounded so strange.
Persuasion and coaxing? If Asperan was talking about persuasion and coaxing, then…
‘Torture!’
My pupils trembled. Was he really going to detain me? Why? Because he didn’t like my expression?
“Understood, Your Majesty!”
The knights’ reply boomed loudly, utterly indifferent to whether my mental state collapsed or not. Their looming stares from either side of me were genuinely intimidating.
The knights reached for me. I slowly backed away. This couldn’t happen—this absolutely couldn’t happen. I couldn’t be captured like this.
I hadn’t even met Asperan II yet!
I dropped to my knees with a thud and pressed both hands flat against the floor. A pitiful, mournful wail slipped naturally from my lips.
“Y-Your Majesty! Just a moment, please!”
“What is it.”
Asperan’s gaze turned back to me. I quickly bowed my head.
“I mean… please, show mercy! Have compassion, I beg you!”
Words straight out of a historical drama tumbled out of my mouth.
Predictably enough,
“…Take her away quickly.”
It had absolutely no effect.
At Asperan’s repeated command, two knights tried to lift me up.
I clung stubbornly to the floor in resistance, but it was pointless. The knights effortlessly hoisted me into the air, flaunting their towering height and burly frames.
I dangled helplessly like a stuffed toy hanging from a child’s backpack, wailing as they dragged me away.
“I’m sorry, Your Majestyyyy!”
Of course, there was no reply.
Asperan, an Aura Master and a highly skilled mage, possessed magical detection abilities ranked among the top three in Elores.
He was especially sensitive to the unique magical energy emitted by monsters. No matter how far away they were or how much other magical interference existed, he could always clearly distinguish a monster’s magic.
Thus, tracking the Moonlight Wolfhound wasn’t particularly difficult for him.
Indeed, the moment Asperan stepped out of Princia Palace—where official duties were held—he swiftly pinpointed the Moonlight Wolfhound’s location: behind Kronen Palace. He immediately drew a teleportation magic circle.
When he arrived at his destination, Asperan was met with a scene he had never once imagined in all his life.
“Aww, you’re so cute! You’re such a good girl! My fluffy little sweetheart~!”
Trending
“Wang!”
The Moonlight Wolfhound was licking a human’s face—not to taste, but with clear affection, wagging its tail so hard it seemed it might break.
The Moonlight Wolfhound was a ferocious and intelligent monster, so difficult to handle that even Asperan—who excelled at capturing monsters—found it troublesome.
That’s why, despite having captured three pups, they still hadn’t even attempted to tame them. No one could get close.
Yet now, that very monster was throwing a fit over there, showering someone with all kinds of endearing antics. Why?
Asperan shifted his gaze to the woman receiving the monster’s affection. Just who could possibly tame a Moonlight Wolfhound?
“!”
Asperan’s eyes widened.
It was her—the woman who had unsettled him, the rare talent he’d desired for the first time in ages, the witness who’d helped his cousin Ulysses.
To meet her here, under these circumstances…
Uncharacteristically flustered, Asperan accidentally made a sound.
Then something even more astonishing happened. The Moonlight Wolfhound bared its teeth at him—a clearly stronger opponent—in order to protect the woman.
At that instant, Asperan felt a shiver run through him.
His ever-cool mind burned hot. Had the knights not arrived moments later, he surely would have grabbed the woman right then and blurted out the words that had just popped into his head.
Asperan slowly walked across the empty snowfield, now deserted after everyone had left at his command. Only one thought circled in his mind.
He would make her
his.
By any means necessary.
[This is the timeline separator]How on earth did things turn out like this?
I paced around the room, clasping my hands together as if in prayer. Afraid I might accidentally break any of the expensive-looking items scattered around, I kept my movements confined to a small area.
The room I was in was a cozy, beautifully decorated reception room adorned in red and gold. Expecting to be taken to an underground dungeon for “persuasion and coaxing,” I’d been surprised when the knights brought me here instead.
“So it wasn’t persuasion and coaxing accompanied by violence!”
It was completely unexpected—and deeply unsettling. If it wasn’t torture, then what exactly did “persuasion and coaxing” mean? What did he intend to do? With no answers, my anxiety only grew.
Just then—
“Excuse me. I’ll come in!”
A precise knock sounded, followed immediately by the door swinging open forcefully. Someone appeared beyond the doorway.
“Huuuuhhh.”
The moment I saw that person’s face, I let out an involuntary, bizarre groan.
I quickly clapped a hand over my mouth.
An awkward silence filled the room.
[This is the timeline separator]Asperan had three closest confidants whom he deeply valued.
Lumel of the palace, Captain of the Royal Guard Canis, and Chief Advisor Kiara.
Readers often referred to them individually as Lumel the “Conscience,” Canis the “Might,” and Kiara the “Intellect,” collectively calling them “Asperan’s Three Trusted Aides.”
“I’m truly sorry.”
And the man who had just startled me so badly was none other than one of those three aides—
Canis the “Might.”
“I’m really sorry for giving you such a fright because of me.”
Canis ran a hand through his short auburn hair, looking embarrassed. I quickly shook my head.
“No, it’s not your fault. I was lost in thought and didn’t hear you. I’m the one who should apologize for my rudeness upon our first meeting.”
“Haha, it’s alright.”
I rubbed my neck and silently let out a deep sigh of relief.
Seeing Canis’s face had made me yelp involuntarily—I’d been startled. I nearly ruined my first impression completely.
‘Thank goodness I came up with an excuse on the spot.’
It was a clumsy lie—that I’d been startled because someone suddenly entered—but Canis accepted it without question.
It was fortunate, though almost worryingly naive.
‘Anyway, he looks exactly like how I imagined him while reading .’
His massive, rock-solid build, tall stature, bold features, and cheerful auburn eyes—he was precisely as I’d pictured him in my mind.
So my shocked outburst upon seeing him was absolutely unavoidable, I swear.

As time passed, my surprise gradually settled. Gathering my courage, I looked up again at Canis’s strikingly handsome face.
When our eyes met, he flashed a bright smile, revealing his white teeth.
Then, placing his right fist over his left chest and his other hand behind his back, he bowed gracefully in a knightly salute.
“Let me properly introduce myself. I am Canis, commander of the royal guard serving His Majesty Asperan, sovereign of Loakin.”
“Hello. I’m truly delighted to meet you. I look forward to your guidance.”
“Yes! Likewise. Hahaha!”
We shared a brief, warm handshake, completely dispelling the earlier awkwardness.
Sadly, however, the pleasant atmosphere didn’t last long.
“Well then, shall we go together now? His Majesty is waiting.”
“Oh.”
My smile froze stiffly on my face.
I’d momentarily forgotten—I was (probably) already on Asperan’s bad side.
I subtly averted my gaze.
“…Do we really have to go right now?”
“Huh? Of course!”
His answer was cheerfully oblivious. Like a herding dog rounding up sheep, Canis ushered me toward the door.
I tried subtly digging my heels in, but resisting “Might” Canis was utterly futile.
‘Nooo—!’
In the end, I had no choice but to be dragged away helplessly.
[This is the timeline separator]“You’ve arrived.”
In a dark green reception room decorated with oddly shaped plants, Asperan sat at a table in the center, reviewing documents. He lifted his head.
His gaze, initially directed at Canis, drifted downward until it settled on me. Asperan’s brows furrowed slightly.
“Why do you look like a cow being dragged to the slaughterhouse?”
“A cow being dragged to the slaughterhouse?”
Canis bent down to examine my expression. With a serious look, he tilted his head sideways.
“That’s strange. You seemed in such a good mood just a moment ago. Is something bothering you?”
‘Don’t ask! How can I possibly say it’s because your sovereign scares me!’
He really had no tact! My tightly clenched fists trembled in secret.
Anyway, I had to say something. I waved my hands frantically.
“No, no! It’s just that… meeting His Majesty has left me so flustered I don’t know what to do with myself. Hehe.”
My silly laugh and empty flattery sounded like the work of a shameless sycophant—even to my own ears. Asperan narrowed his eyes.
Fortunately, instead of pressing further, Asperan simply jerked his chin toward the seat opposite him.
“Sit.”
“Yes!”
A finely crafted dark green sofa sat where Asperan had indicated. To avoid provoking him further, I hurried over and plopped down onto it.
‘Why on earth did he call me to this strange reception room? What’s he going to say?’
I fidgeted with my clasped hands, glancing nervously at the large, Venus flytrap-like plant sitting on the table.
Asperan’s intense gaze burned into the top of my head. My heart pounded wildly.
After a long, uncomfortable silence, Asperan finally spoke.

Male lead Asks for a Divorce Every Day
It’s not often you come across a plot like this in the female-dominant genre — make sure to check it out!

This is a novel I’m planning to reread as well.
The male lead is strong, skilled in martial arts, and not the usual fragile type you often see in matriarchal novels.
Meanwhile, the female lead is a scientist—rational and logical. Even when she falls for the male lead, she doesn’t let her emotions cloud her decisions.
If you push through the first few chapters, you’ll gradually find the story really intriguing.
It has a mix of mystery, detective elements, and romance.
The author’s writing style is like crafting a puzzle—except they deliberately leave out a few pieces, making it hard to predict what happens next, yet keeping you hooked.
In the end, everything will come together and be explained.
One-sentence summary: Wife, stop playing with beakers and look at me!
In a laboratory accident, research scientist Zhu Wansheng accidentally travels to a matriarchal world. The original owner of the body is an eighteen-year-old only daughter of a wealthy rouge merchant, already married with a handsome young man.
Zhu Wansheng grins: Nice! She always said she was heaven’s favorite granddaughter. After a life of toil in her previous life, she can enjoy blessings in this one.
However, her joy lasts no more than three seconds as bad news arrives: the original owner’s family is about to go bankrupt, and her husband wants a divorce.
Even worse, she’s stuck with a research system full of restrictions.
Zhu Wansheng: ? Is this the destiny of a research dog?
——
Faced with this mess, Zhu Wansheng pours herself a bowl of wine to drown her sorrows. In her drunken haze, her husband arrives.
His figure is imposing, holding a long sword, with a dignified air that captivates Zhu Wansheng.
Gu Yingqing, however, looks at the alcohol-reeking Zhu Wansheng with undisguised disgust and coldly asks, “Divorce or not?” The intoxicated Zhu Wansheng mumbles vaguely, “I think… it’s not… it’s not… impossible!”
——
The next day, after sobering up, Zhu Wansheng is full of energy, rolling up her sleeves ready to make a big move. As for yesterday? She has no memory of it.
Zhu Wansheng is ambitious; a research dog fears nothing!
Upgrading rouge, extracting fragrances, producing perfumes, researching lipsticks… all shall bow to the power of modern technology!
The original owner’s dying rouge shop is revitalized. Her mother is pleased and with a wave of her hand, passes on the family business to her. As she takes control and her experimental results gain popularity, it’s the pinnacle of her life…
——
But there are always those who can’t stand to see her doing well. Jealousy, scheming, assassination attempts – they want nothing less than her life.
The person who has always kept his distance from her suddenly holds her tightly in his arms, eyes full of concern.
She is unharmed, but he falls into a pool of blood…
Zhu Wansheng feels guilty, “I can grant you one wish.”
Gu Yingqing tentatively circles his arms around her, carefully resting his head in the crook of her neck, pleading softly, “I regret it. Can we not divorce?”
Zhu Wansheng: ? When did I agree to a divorce?
[Small Theater]
The newly developed rouge is beautifully packaged, and Zhu Wansheng is eager to try it.
Gu Yingqing suddenly appears: “My lady, may I apply it for you?”
Cool fingertips lightly brush her lips. His Adam’s apple bobs as he leans in for a light bite.
Zhu Wansheng: ?
Gu Yingqing: It smells so good, I wanted to taste it…
On a warm spring day, Zhu Wansheng tries a new perfume: “Spring Night.” Gu Yingqing corners her against a wall.
Warm breath lingers on her neck.
“My lady, from now on, may I test the fragrances for you?”
