Did I Ever Love You? (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 16
“Ahahahaha.”
Ji Yeon couldn’t stop laughing at all.
Eventually, tears even gathered at the corners of her eyes.
That beautiful dress Ji Yeon had bought with great determination.
A dress so exclusive it was only stocked in three pieces nationwide—only available to corporate tycoon families among department store VVIPs; ordinary customers couldn’t even see the actual item.
And Jung Se Ah was wearing that very dress, the one whose purchase history remained recorded whenever the store was contacted.
“This is just… way too funny. Seriously. The best revenge isn’t about what I can do to hurt someone. It’s clearly just living my life happily and working toward my own joy. Real revenge takes care of itself.”
Ji Yeon muttered to herself, words only she could understand.
She suppressed her endless laughter and turned to Min Woo.
“Mr. Cha Min Woo, you must be so happy—living with such a pretty, well-behaved little thief.”
Hearing this from the side, Se Ah’s eyes widened, and she rushed over to grab Ji Yeon’s arm.
“Hey! What did you just call me? A thief?”
“Ms. Jung Se Ah, your brain probably can’t grasp what I’m saying, so I’ll spell it out just once—listen carefully, okay?”
Ji Yeon laughed as she swatted away Se Ah’s grip on her arm.
“That dress you’re wearing—you have no idea what kind of garment it really is, do you? Because you didn’t know, you stole it without a thought and even wore it here today. This dress is sold exclusively to nationwide department store VVIPs, with only three pieces ever imported into Korea. Don’t even try claiming you bought it yourself. I know exactly who purchased the first two, and the third and final one was bought by me. The price? Even I found it a heavy burden. Sure, you’ve got Cha Min Woo backing you now—but seriously? Do you expect me to believe he actually paid that amount to buy this dress for you? Absolutely impossible.”
As she spoke, Ji Yeon lightly tapped the upper part of Se Ah’s chest.
“This dress was altered for me because the bust area was too tight—it was stretched to fit me. But on you, it’s clearly way too loose. When the bust gapes like that, this dress loses all its charm. Got it?”
“Wh…what are you even talking about? This is… this is mine…”
“Want me to set up a meeting with the brand manager? Do you even know the name of this brand?”
Se Ah’s face flushed crimson with shame, her whole body visibly trembling.
“This dress has been worn by trash—it’s so tainted that I could never possibly take it back. Just keep it. I’ll make a generous donation, since I’ve decided to be magnanimous.”
With that, she turned toward Min Woo and Joo Ran.
“Let’s end this here and now. We’re done. Let’s never see each other again.”
Ji Yeon picked up the scattered marriage registration documents from the floor and tore them to shreds right before their eyes.
“Live well—with that first love you couldn’t live without. Never part for the rest of your lives, stay glued together. Understand? Forever.”
Torn paper fragments fluttered in all directions, landing across Min Woo’s face.
As Ji Yeon walked away from the house, her expression had grown strangely calm.
After she left, nobody spoke for a long while.
That moment stunned everyone—but especially Min Woo, who found it utterly unbelievable.
Why had Se Ah come to a place she was explicitly told not to? And what was all that about the dress?
She felt overwhelmingly confused—and furious.
Leaving Joo Ran groaning on the sofa behind, Min Woo roughly grabbed Se Ah’s arm and dragged her into a room.
“That hurts, Mr. Min Woo! Let go of me!”
Se Ah glared at him as she spoke.
“Was this why you told me not to come today? To meet Eun Ji Yeon? Did you three—yourself, your mother, and her—dream up some ridiculous excuse just to keep me away?”
“What was Ji Yeon talking about with that dress? Did you steal it from her? Are you insane? When exactly did you take it?”
Min Woo didn’t answer her questions. Instead, he pressed her further, incredulous.
“Wh…what are you saying? I didn’t get a chance to explain earlier because of Eun Ji Yeon—steal what exactly?”
“Then what was Ji Yeon talking about? Where did this dress come from? Did you really buy it yourself, Se Ah?”
“Yes, I bought it. It’s embarrassing to admit, but it’s a top-tier counterfeit. As that woman said, the original was far too expensive—I couldn’t possibly ask you to buy it for me, but I really wanted one. So I had someone make an exact replica through a contact. It’s a premium fake.”
“You seriously suspect me based only on what that woman said?”
Se Ah shot back, seemingly more offended than Min Woo.
“Are you sure?”
Min Woo didn’t fully believe her—but he couldn’t exactly disbelieve her either.
“You’re really doubting me right now? Seriously? Wow… How could you treat me like this?”
Tears quickly welled up in Se Ah’s eyes again.
‘Here she goes—crying again!’
Min Woo felt irritated—with the whole situation, with Se Ah, and with Joo Ran.
“Fine, okay. If that’s your truth, then so be it.”
“This is so unfair! Honestly! And shouldn’t you be the one explaining things to me? Why are you blaming only me, who’s done nothing wrong? Why did you meet Eun Ji Yeon today? Was this the first time you’ve seen her alone, or not?”

“What are you talking about? We met today to settle our breakup.”
“Why does that woman keep dragging this out like this? What’s she trying to achieve by clinging to a man whose heart has moved on? Is she doing this out of spite?”
Se Ah snapped irritably.
“No more divorce talk is needed. There’s no reason to divorce at all.”
Min Woo said to Se Ah, almost resigned.
“I just found out… Eun Ji Yeon and I… were never even legally married.”
“What? Is that true? Oh my gosh—if that’s the case, you’re technically single then! That’s amazing! So we can register our marriage right away?”
Se Ah instantly wiped away her earlier tears and smiled brightly at Min Woo.
“That’s perfect! Now we won’t need to hide or sneak around—we can go out together openly.”
“Yeah… it worked out.”
Min Woo reluctantly agreed, his expression sour.
“How about we go register our marriage this Monday? There’s no need to delay any longer.”
“How can we do it right now? I need some time to talk to my father first.”
“So you’re not as eager as I am? I wish we could become official husband and wife as soon as possible—even just one day sooner.”
When Min Woo answered hesitantly, Se Ah pouted.
“Don’t say things like that, Se Ah. Don’t think that way. Of course I want to register our marriage right away too—but you know how it is with my family. My father’s word is absolute. We need to properly greet them and win over both my parents’ hearts. Father especially adores Ji Yeon. No, I….”
Min Woo realized he’d blurted out something he shouldn’t have to Se Ah and quickly shut his mouth.
Se Ah glared at him fiercely.
“If your father adores his wife so much, why are you trying to leave her for me, Mr. Min Woo? If your father keeps opposing us, will you just abandon me again? And then go find that woman—or some other rich man’s daughter? Three years ago, you left me for her precisely because of your father’s pressure, saying you had to marry the woman he chose to secure your position as heir!”
Min Woo tightly pulled the suddenly fierce Se Ah into his arms.
“I’m sorry, Se Ah. I shouldn’t have said something that hurt you—it was a mistake. I’ll go see my father soon and pay my respects. I’ll set up a meeting right away. He’ll eventually give us his blessing.”
But Se Ah didn’t trust his words.
Three years ago, even when he claimed to be deeply in love with her, his heir status had always come first.
Why did he constantly cower under his father’s shadow?
His father this, his father that—always obeying his father…
He rattled on endlessly like that.
It wasn’t that Min Woo lacked backbone—it was as if he lived perpetually crushed beneath his father’s dominance.
That’s exactly why he’d so easily discarded the woman he claimed to love—the woman he’d dated for years—without ever daring to defy his father.
She couldn’t allow herself to be thrown away like that again.
“Mr. Min Woo, okay. Let’s slowly win over your parents’ hearts. I’ll wait and try my best.”
“Thank you, Se Ah. I appreciate your understanding.”
“In return, there’s one thing I need you to do for me.”
“What’s that?”
“Let’s have a baby first.”
“What? What do you mean?”
Min Woo’s eyes widened in shock at the sudden mention of a baby.
“Mr. Min Woo, everything’s settled now. You’re not married, you’re legally single—what’s the problem? Let’s have a baby quickly.”
Min Woo honestly couldn’t understand why Se Ah would bring up a baby in this situation.
But arguing with her while she was worked up didn’t seem wise, so he decided to soothe her for now.
Besides, he mostly just wanted to wrap everything up and get out of there quickly.
His head throbbed painfully.
“Okay, fine. I’ll think it over. You’re right—there shouldn’t be any obstacles anymore.”
Se Ah beamed and hugged Min Woo tightly.
“I’ll do my best, so please do your best for me too. Let’s forget all the time we spent apart and become even happier, Mr. Min Woo.”
When they stepped out of the room back into the living room, Joo Ran was still huffing angrily on the sofa.
She clearly hadn’t cooled down from her earlier encounter with Ji Yeon.
Suddenly, she bolted upright, rushed over to Se Ah—who stood beside Min Woo—and grabbed both her arms, shaking her violently.
Having Min Woo right there gave Joo Ran extra strength, and memories of the previous humiliation from Se Ah came rushing back.
“What on earth were you two whispering about in private, sneaking into a room together like that? And Se Ah—how dare you show your face so boldly in my son’s house? Huh? If you had any sense, you wouldn’t act like this! No decent woman just casually walks in and out of a married man’s home!”
Joo Ran screamed at the top of her lungs while violently shaking Se Ah, unleashing her uncontrolled rage and fury directly onto her.

It was the exact same behavior she’d shown back when Ji Yeon lived in this house.
That nasty habit of hers.
Whenever she got angry, she had to vent it somewhere—by lashing out.
When she visited the main house where Chairman Cha’s legal wife, Kim Ji Won, resided…
When Chairman Cha had humiliated her…
When her investments didn’t go as planned…
Whenever something upset Joo Ran, she’d show up unannounced at Ji Yeon’s place, hurling cutting insults, sometimes even shaking or shoving her to release her anger.
“You need to behave better if you want our son to stay with you—it’s not like Min Woo can’t forget Se Ah!”
“Just because you come from a good family and went to a prestigious university doesn’t mean you know how to do anything useful! A proper daughter-in-law should at least know how to cook!”
“Don’t you know how much Min Woo hated marrying you? If you ever want to hold onto him, you’d better bear a child—how else do you expect to secure his heart?”
Now that Ji Yeon was gone, Se Ah—right in front of her—was the only target left for her outbursts.
“Mother!”
Min Woo grabbed the hysterically raging Joo Ran and tried to restrain her.
“Mother, why are you doing this to me? What have I done so wrong? All I’ve ever done is love Mr. Min Woo!”
Still unable to free her arms from Joo Ran’s grip, Se Ah burst into tears, sobbing helplessly.
Seeing her cry, Min Woo pushed Joo Ran away, clearly furious.
“Mother! Please just stop! What on earth are you doing to Se Ah? Ugh… You should go home for today. I’ll contact you once I’ve sorted everything out. Until then, don’t come here again.”
Even though Min Woo intervened, Joo Ran couldn’t control her temper, still huffing and glaring at Se Ah as if ready to devour her.
With Min Woo standing right beside her, Se Ah couldn’t defiantly stand her ground like she had last time.
Her pent-up rage was about to explode—but she held it in, glancing at Min Woo’s face.
She didn’t want him to see, didn’t want him to know her like this.
Yet… silently, she bit her lip, vowing to repay both Eun Ji Yeon and Kang Joo Ran in full someday.

The woman snatched his phone and hung up. Looking at his phone wallpaper, she awkwardly changed the subject: “An ancient painting, eh? It looks pretty good, it’s just that the person in the painting looks a bit like me.”
When he heard this, he sarcastically mocked her for being so delusional, completely unaware that, the person in front of him was the reincarnation of Wen Ru, the famous prime minister of Yuan Shun whom he most admired…
