Time flowed as swiftly as the wind, and before he knew it, Friday—the day Min Woo had promised to meet Joo Ran—had arrived.

Min Woo, who had come home earlier than the agreed-upon time, frowned in surprise and annoyance when Joo Ran showed up at his place around 7 p.m.

He hadn’t received any prior notice from her that she would be coming over.

Moreover, he was supposed to spend time with Ji Yeon here shortly—so he worried about what excuse he could possibly use to send Joo Ran away.

“What on earth? Why did you change the password again? If you changed it, you should’ve told me right away!”

Joo Ran muttered to herself, grumbling as she walked into the house.

“What are you doing here, Mother?”

Min Woo, unable to hide his irritation as he opened the door, asked in a plainly annoyed tone. Joo Ran glared back at him.

“Me? Ji Yeon asked to see me. And what do you mean, ‘what business’? Do I always need a special reason to visit my own son’s house?”

Joo Ran, equally irritated by Min Woo’s snappish tone, couldn’t manage a gentle reply.

She had so many questions about Se Ah she wanted to ask Min Woo—words already rising in her throat—but knowing she’d soon meet Ji Yeon, she forced herself to stay quiet.

‘So it seems she’s still not living here with that Se Ah girl.’

Joo Ran’s eyes darted around as she replayed in her mind her previous conversation with Se Ah.

“You didn’t give me any notice at all. You should’ve informed me before coming to my house. And did Ji Yeon really ask you to come see her? At this exact time today?”

“Why are you acting so strangely all of a sudden? Can’t I just drop by your place without calling first? It’s my son’s home, isn’t it? And when have I ever called ahead before coming here? I’ve never done that even once, and you never cared before—why are you suddenly so irritated now? Like I just said, Ji Yeon called me herself today and told me to be here by 7 p.m.!”

“Ugh… Mother!”

Hearing Joo Ran’s reply, Min Woo let out an exaggeratedly loud sigh—loud enough for her to hear clearly.

‘So she just barged in unannounced all this time? Every single visit? She never contacted Ji Yeon in advance?’

All these things he’d never paid attention to before—now that he did, every little oddity and irritation kept piling up.

He’d already exhausted himself convincing Se Ah not to come to the house today and to stay at the officetel instead, and now his mother was being even more difficult than Se Ah.

Suddenly, a sharp, throbbing pain shot through one side of his head as if a migraine had struck.

*Ding-dong, ding-dong!*

A moment later, the doorbell rang—Ji Yeon must have arrived. Min Woo opened the door.

“You’re both right on time.”

Ji Yeon stepped inside, glanced briefly at Joo Ran with barely a nod, and immediately flopped down onto the living room sofa.

“Ji Yeon, what’s gotten into you lately? Why are you acting so disrespectful all of a sudden?”

Apparently infuriated by her attitude, Joo Ran suddenly pointed a finger at Ji Yeon and shouted loudly.

“Jung Se Ah, haven’t you realized yet? Why bring this up again now?”

“Yes, exactly! I kept telling you about that Se Ah girl—that’s why I called you, but you barely replied to my messages and wouldn’t even pick up your phone! And now you finally decide to meet? If that girl showed up, you should’ve contacted me first to discuss it and figure out a solution together!”

“Mrs. Kang Joo Ran, why would I need to do that? The man you called your husband went looking for his first love—the one he apparently missed so much he thought he’d die without her. He told me outright that someone like Eun Ji Yeon, who lived with him for three years, is worth less than a cockroach in a trash can compared to his precious first love. And do you know what else? Before even going through proper legal procedures with the woman he lived with for three years, he couldn’t wait any longer and packed his bags to move in with his beloved first love and start a new household!”

“Ji Yeon! Eun Ji Yeon!”

Shocked, Min Woo cried out to Ji Yeon with a horrified expression.

No matter how things were ending between them, calling his mother—who had been her mother-in-law for three years—“Mrs.” was absolutely unthinkable.

“You… what did you just say? Mrs.? Mrs.?”

Too stunned and flustered by Ji Yeon’s words, Joo Ran’s mouth hung open, unable to close.

Ironically, neither Min Woo nor Joo Ran seemed bothered by the ugliness of their own past or present actions. All they fixated on was Ji Yeon calling Joo Ran “Mrs.”—and they both expressed clear displeasure over it.

“Yes, Mrs. Kang Joo Ran. Since I’m separating from the person I’ve lived with for three years, you’re no longer my mother-in-law. So what else would I call you?”

“Are you insane? Even if we’re separating, why are you being so utterly disrespectful?”

“What exactly do we have left to be polite about, Mr. Cha Min Woo? You seem like such a polite man—abandoning your legal wife to set up house with your mistress from the very beginning? Wow, where did you even learn such manners? From your mother, perhaps?”

“Se Ah isn’t my mistress! She’s… she’s absolutely not that kind of person! It’s you who pushed your way into our relationship!”

Flushed red with anger, he shot to his feet and glared at Ji Yeon.

Watching him, Ji Yeon let out a short, derisive laugh.

“Fine, believe what you want. I don’t care what the world calls you two.”

“You’ve clearly made up your mind to hit rock bottom today, haven’t you? How do you expect us to face each other from now on?”

Joo Ran chimed in from the side, pouring fuel on Ji Yeon’s already blazing fury.

Ji Yeon stared at the two of them as if looking at disgusting insects, then abruptly turned and headed toward the kitchen.

There, she grabbed a large glass, filled it to the brim with water, and gulped it all down in one go.

“Ahh~ So refreshing. This house has nothing good except the water.”

She loudly declared this, then filled another glass to the top and returned to the living room, standing right in front of Cha Min Woo.

“I never thought I’d actually do something I’ve only seen on TV. Life really is full of variety, don’t you think, Mr. Cha Min Woo?”

Right then, she dumped the entire glass of cold water straight onto Min Woo’s face.

“Hey! Eun Ji Yeon! What the hell are you doing?!”

Min Woo shouted, soaked head to toe—but Ji Yeon remained unmoved. She glanced at him briefly, then pulled some documents from her bag.

She threw those papers right into Cha Min Woo’s face as well.

“If you had even a shred of conscience, you couldn’t possibly say those things! You’re nothing but garbage—garbage so worthless it can’t even be thrown away, Cha Min Woo!”

Cha Min Woo’s eyes widened in shock as he glared at Ji Yeon, then quickly bent down to pick up the documents that had hit his face and fallen to the floor.

“Marriage registration papers? What is this?”

Confused, Min Woo flipped through the papers and then tossed them back toward Ji Yeon.

“Cha Min Woo, are you seriously telling me you don’t know what this is?”

Ji Yeon picked up the papers and stood right in front of Min Woo.

“These are our marriage registration documents—the ones you promised to file but kept putting off. The ones you’ve completely forgotten about!”

Her voice nearly turned into a scream.

“What nonsense are you spouting? That’s impossible!”

“Our marriage was never registered! You kept delaying it, again and again—meaning there was never anything official between us!”

“What? You must be mistaken.”

Min Woo snatched the papers from Ji Yeon’s hands and stared at them intently.

This made no sense. We definitely went together to the district office and filed our marriage registration…

Wait. He actually had no memory of visiting the district office with Ji Yeon—or of ever submitting the registration.

He did recall that shortly after their wedding, Ji Yeon had asked about the registration, and at the time, since he’d planned to break up within a year anyway, he’d deliberately postponed it.

But after that… what happened next?

His mind went blank, and confusion suddenly gripped him.

“You don’t remember, do you, Cha Min Woo? That’s how utterly worthless this document was to you—our marriage vows, my request—less valuable to you than dog poop on the sidewalk, right?”

A distorted smile twisted Ji Yeon’s face.

“Since you clearly don’t remember anything, let me, your ever-kind and helpful ex, explain it nicely for you. When our marriage had already passed the one-year mark and was nearing two years, I asked you to register our marriage. You told me you’d do it later and asked me to hold onto the documents for you. So I gave them to you—and you tossed them carelessly into a box in your room like trash and completely forgot about them. You erased them from your memory entirely—as if they never existed.”

Beside them, Joo Ran covered her mouth in shock, utterly stunned.

“That can’t be… that’s impossible!”

“You and I, Cha Min Woo and Eun Ji Yeon—we were never anything to each other. We were complete strangers! Thanks to you, I’m technically still a virgin on paper.”

Ji Yeon threw her head back and laughed hysterically, as if she’d lost her mind.

She’d come here determined to stay calm, vowing over and over not to waste her energy on someone like him.

She kept repeating to herself: *“If dog poop gets on my shoe, I shouldn’t be angry at the poop—I should be angry at the person who left it there.”*

But the injustice of her past three years—suddenly vanishing into nothing—overwhelmed her all at once, and before she realized it, she’d lost control and screamed at the top of her lungs.

“So, what now? Since there’s nothing between us, there’s no such thing as a divorce. And naturally, the shares I planned to transfer to you? Gone—vanished from your life. How lucky for you, Cha Min Woo! Now you can live peacefully with your first love without even needing a divorce.”

“This is absurd! Utterly absurd!”

“Blame your own laziness—or better yet, your stupidity!”

After shouting this, Ji Yeon abruptly turned toward Joo Ran.

“Mrs. Kang Joo Ran, your precious son brought another woman home and told me to leave—but turns out we were never even married! For three whole years, I suffered through your toxic tantrums and your shameless, graceless behavior—all while not even knowing we were legally strangers. Doesn’t that make you feel incredibly guilty now?”

“What? You must be out of your mind!”

“Elegance and grace, Mrs.—they don’t come from wearing designer clothes. They come from character. You should seriously ask people around you how they truly see you. Do they view you as refined and cultured—or as crude and low-class? Though, honestly, what do I care? All I ever saw from you were vulgar, disgraceful actions.”

Joo Ran trembled uncontrollably, unsure whether she was more shocked or furious at Ji Yeon’s relentless barrage of insults.

“From now on, don’t even pretend to know me. Just the sight of your shadow makes me sick.”

“Hey!”

Finally, Joo Ran screamed and lunged toward Ji Yeon.

She simply couldn’t endure another second of Ji Yeon’s scathing words.

But Ji Yeon grabbed Joo Ran’s arm as she charged forward and shoved her hard onto the sofa, sending her sprawling.

“Ouch! Ouch! This woman’s trying to kill me!”

“I was only acting in self-defense, Mrs.”

Ji Yeon panted heavily, still fuming.

“Cha Min Woo. Now, we truly are nothing to each other. Don’t ever contact me again. Don’t even pretend to know me. Alimony? I don’t need your money. You have no idea who you’re casting aside. What I’ve earned on my own far exceeds any paltry alimony you’d offer. I only pity the version of myself who once thought she loved you. Still, it’s such a relief I finally found out the truth!”

Min Woo, who had been sitting dazed and clutching his head, suddenly grabbed Ji Yeon’s arm.

“Ji Yeon, please listen to me—you must be misunderstanding something…”

Just then, the sound of the front door’s passcode being entered echoed through the house.

The door soon opened, and all three pairs of eyes turned toward the entrance.

It was Se Ah who stepped inside.

“Mr. Min Woo. Oh—Mother, you’re here too.”

With a surprised expression, Se Ah approached them.

Min Woo’s desperate pleas for her not to come to the house today had backfired spectacularly.

‘There’s definitely something going on here today. He must be meeting Eun Ji Yeon here—that’s for sure!’

That’s exactly why Se Ah had grown suspicious of his behavior and decided to come.

“I had no idea you’d all be gathered here. I just came by to pick something up—but I certainly didn’t expect to find an… unexpected guest. Not that I’m happy to see you, Ms. Eun Ji Yeon?”

Se Ah glared menacingly at Ji Yeon as she spoke.

Ji Yeon, facing her, suddenly burst into loud, unrestrained laughter.

“Hahaha! Ahahahaha!”

Everyone watched, unable to hide their shock, as Ji Yeon kept laughing like a madwoman.

Regret With All Your Might (Completed Main Story)

Side Story 5 Side Story 4

Male lead is a Divorced Husband

She said to him: “Tell me, what makes you like me? I’ll change it!”

Liu Changning transmigrated into a female cannon fodder character in a female-dominant novel.

After reading the first half of the novel’s plot, the first thing she did upon transmigration was to divorce the Pan Jinlian-style male protagonist she had just married.

She indulged herself, pretending to be ugly and poor.

But as time passed, the way that man looked at her became more and more unusual…

Liu Changning was dumbfounded: Tell me, what makes you like me? I’ll change!

――

This lifetime, Pei Yuanshao was rejected by the same woman twice!

The first time, she drove him away. Forced by the situation, he endured the waves of anger in his heart, yielding and humbling himself.

That person lay slanted on a rocking chair, her sallow face emotionless: “If you don’t want a divorce, go cook!”

Pei Yuanshao’s face was dark and gloomy: “You!”

The second time, after the crisis in Jinling City was resolved, the new emperor sent someone to pick him up. He turned around, stammering: “I… I have to go. If you keep me…”

That person lay on the kang bed, her back to him, as if she had long anticipated this day, crisp and clear: “Goodbye!”

Pei Yuanshao was so angry his fingers trembled: “You… you!”

The mission of family and country made him restrain himself, averting his eyes and turning to leave this broken household.

Two years later, they met again. Seeing her ethereal face, his body shook like a sieve.

“She was originally a ‘she’!”

At the Qionglin Banquet, the top scholar of the imperial examination, a talented person with exceptional speech and conduct, all the unmarried young gentlemen from aristocratic families looked at her with shy and timid eyes.

The peerless imperial official Pei Yuanshao felt the anger in his heart erupt. He pointed at the woman surrounded by the crowd at the Qionglin Banquet, his thin lips slightly curled: “Little sister, I wants that person to be the wife-master of my Mingde Prince Manor.”
