How long had they held each other? When it was time for Ji Hoo to go to bed, Ha Yeon brought the child to his room.

“Unnie…”

The boy lying on the bed called out to Ha Yeon in an oddly heavy voice.

“Yes, Ji Hoo. What is it?”

Sensing he was about to say something important, Ha Yeon sat beside the bed and met his eyes.

“You know… I want to visit Mom and Dad—not right away, but after the art fair ends.”

Earlier he’d said he wanted to wait a little longer, but now he finally seemed ready to visit the memorial hall.

“Alright, let’s do that. Whatever Ji Hoo wants to do, we’ll do it just like that.”

Ha Yeon stroked the boy’s forehead, hoping the shift in his emotions would be a positive one.

Ji Hoo smiled faintly and drifted off to sleep. Even after he’d fallen asleep, Ha Yeon couldn’t bring herself to leave; she remained seated beside him, gazing endlessly at his face, unable to look away.

At that very moment, while Ha Yeon was putting Ji Hoo to bed, Min Je’s expression darkened coldly in the living room.

Though he’d concealed it completely in front of Ha Yeon and Ji Hoo, inside he felt utterly charred—reduced to nothing but ashes.

‘So this happened behind my back…’

It felt entirely his fault, weighing heavily on his heart. And so he resolved: he would set everything right himself.

Min Je was the kind of man who couldn’t live with debts unpaid; naturally, one ought to repay others in kind—or better.
