After the typhoon passed, the sky cleared up as if nothing had ever happened. Cicadas chirped among the trees lining the garden, and the sky was brilliantly blue, as though it had expelled every last cloud.

“It’s done.”

Ha Yeon smiled faintly, having just completed a painting. While the process of painting had been difficult and frustrating, once finished, all the hardship faded away.

“Oh—I’m going to be late. Better hurry.”

Remembering her appointment with Yoo Jin, Ha Yeon hastily stepped out of the house.

After enjoying a satisfying lunch and moving to a café, Ha Yeon told Yoo Jin that her work had been selected for exhibition at Kiaf.

“What? Seriously?”

Yoo Jin raised her voice in surprise, prompting the surrounding patrons to murmur. This situation repeated itself every time they met, so once again, Ha Yeon smoothly smiled and offered them an apologetic glance.

“Just being selected for that venue alone is an incredible credential.”

Yoo Jin sighed admiringly, her face tinged with envy.

“Right. So lately, I’ve been throwing myself into painting.”

Ha Yeon chuckled bashfully. Min Je had said he gave her this opportunity because he recognized her talent, yet she couldn’t shake the feeling of having been parachuted in.

Yoo Jin, quick to read Ha Yeon’s thoughts, lightly smacked her shoulder and scolded her.

“Everyone else is desperate trying to grab an opportunity like this, and you’re complaining even though it literally fell into your lap! You need to get bolder—tighten up your neck, stand tall, and declare, ‘This is who I am!’”

When Yoo Jin even demonstrated an arrogant pose herself, Ha Yeon couldn’t help but burst into laughter. Yoo Jin often spouted “gray-area” justifications, claiming that to succeed, one needed a reasonable amount of compromise and a bit of humble deference.
