David's Husband (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 41
Three years ago, on a day in November, Min Je was driving on the highway. He had just met with a painter in the provinces and was returning to Seoul.
He had just reached an interchange on the outskirts of Seoul when the car ahead of him suddenly braked. Unable to adjust his speed in time, Min Je collided with it.
After briefly losing consciousness, Min Je opened the driver’s door and got out—only to find the road already turned into utter chaos.
The roadside was paralyzed with thick smoke, people bleeding, and others frantically running around seeking help.
He would later learn that this accident was a horrifying multi-vehicle crash: a drowsy driver had rear-ended a vehicle ahead, triggering a six-car pileup.
Fortunately, Min Je’s car was the sixth and final one in the chain, so he avoided serious injury. Still, the impact left him shaken, and a high-pitched ringing buzzed faintly in his ears.
“Are you hurt? Are you okay?”
Someone asked him with concern as he staggered forward. Min Je could only barely nod and then walked toward the line of damaged vehicles.
He didn’t know why he couldn’t just sit still and wait for the ambulance. Driven by some instinctive pull, he headed toward the smoking car.
Thick smoke billowed from the third vehicle. Inside the badly crumpled car sat a young couple; the man in the driver’s seat had already lost consciousness.
Forgetting his own pain, Min Je struggled desperately to open the rear door. But the impact had warped the frame, and the door wouldn’t budge no matter how hard he pushed.
Min Je smashed the rear window with his elbow. Already heavily cracked, the glass shattered under his force.
The woman in the back seat was also in grave condition, her entire body soaked in blood as she gasped for breath.
“Are you okay?”
Hearing Min Je’s voice, the woman weakly opened her eyes and painfully extended something she had been holding close to her chest toward him.
