Couples in Love (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 7
“Today, my daughter is getting married to Jin Sunwoo, Head Manager of K1 Construction’s Development Division, in the VIP suite of K1 Hotel right across the street. Others envy me for gaining a chaebol in-law, but I’m simply grateful knowing how much my daughter and son-in-law cherish and love each other.”
Han Moon Taek paused briefly, and the reporters around him grew even livelier.
“Han, congratulations!”
“Wait—who’s this? Isn’t that Congressman Min? And Congressman Jang is here too?”
Several politicians, former colleagues of Han Moon Taek from Koryo Ilbo’s political desk, even appeared at this ridiculous gathering to showcase their connections. With more material to write about, the reporters became even more excited.
‘I’m going crazy!’
She instantly understood why her father was putting on such a ridiculous clown show.
After failing to invite guests to the wedding and boast to the whole neighborhood that he’d become K1 Construction’s in-law, he was now spreading the news this way instead.
Overwhelmed by unbearable shame, Green covered her face with her bag and hurriedly dashed into K1 Hotel.
As soon as she entered the makeup room, the waiting staff seated her and began working with practiced skill.
“Just keep it simple—only the basics, please.”
“But this is once in a lifetime! You should take advantage of all the services available!”
“No, really—just the basics, please. I’d appreciate it.”
The staff members, who had hoped to show off their best skills for the owner’s future granddaughter-in-law, were deflated—but Green didn’t care at all.
She was too preoccupied with her father Han Moon Taek making a spectacle of himself out front.
“How long have those reporters been gathered there?”
“Since 9 a.m. At first, they even came right up to the VIP suite entrance, where the bride’s father gave interviews. But it got too chaotic, so the manager kicked them all out. Now they’re causing that commotion across the street…”
The makeup artist, who had just been gossiping about the bride’s father and the reporters, suddenly realized who she was speaking to and snapped her mouth shut in alarm.
She’d just badmouthed the bride’s father while standing right in front of the bride—now she felt as good as dead. Her hands trembled as she held the brush.
From that moment on, silence filled the makeup room. With no conversation, the artist worked even faster.
By the time her makeup, hairstyling, and wedding dress were all finished, it was only noon.
“There’s still plenty of time before the ceremony—would you like to go to the bridal waiting room?”
“Yes, I will.”
The moment Green sat down in the bridal waiting room, Sunwoo arrived.
He was dressed in a comfortable navy suit. Though the well-tailored fit flattered his solid build, it felt distant from the expected appearance of a groom on his wedding day.
“You’re here?”
Only then did a faint smile finally appear on Green’s face, which had been weighed down by anxiety throughout the wedding preparations.
Sunwoo stared intently at Green, who sat picture-perfect in the bridal waiting room after her exquisite makeup.
Unlike their first meeting—and even unlike the beautifully dressed version he’d seen during the formal engagement meeting—she looked both fresh and strangely unfamiliar in her wedding gown.
“Ms. Green, are you already all set?”
“Yes, the staff were so skilled that everything finished quickly.”
He, too, had felt deeply annoyed watching Han Moon Taek’s clownish antics out front.
But the moment he saw Green in her pure white wedding dress, it was as if the murky water weighing on him had begun to clear.
Though this marriage was merely for appearances, he suddenly became freshly aware that, from today onward, she would officially be his wife. At the same time, he also felt some concern for the time she would now have to endure.
“Will you be all right?”
“Of course.”
Wanting to show him that she, too, would do her very best for him—as long as he kept the promise he’d made—Green answered with deliberate cheerfulness under his worried gaze.
“Shall we shake hands?”
Green extended her hand first. Sunwoo’s large palm firmly enveloped her small, soft one.
The hand that had been frozen like ice instantly regained its usual warmth upon touching his. His warmth seemed to melt even the anxiety that had turned her heart rigid with tension.
“Please take care of me, Mr. Sunwoo.”
“I’ll be counting on you as well.”
Their eyes stayed locked on each other for a while. Just as Sunwoo parted his lips to say something, an employee entered after a knock.
“Head Manager, Secretary Ahn Yong Ki has arrived.”
“I’ll be right out.”
Sunwoo’s gaze lingered briefly on Green’s fair face before pulling away. Green thought she detected pity in his eyes—but she quickly shook her head.
There was no reason for him to pity her. After all, this was merely a contract between them.
As Sunwoo turned and slowly disappeared from her view, Green found herself unknowingly sinking down onto the floor.
Suddenly, it felt as though she’d been cast adrift in the open ocean on a tiny raft, overcome by an indescribable fear. The bouquet in her hands trembled faintly, yet she had no one with whom to share this unease.
From now on, this burden belonged entirely to her alone.

When the clock struck 2:30 p.m., Han Moon Taek—still surrounded by reporters—finally decided to wrap up his little show.
“Ladies and gentlemen of the press, I’ve just heard the in-laws have arrived, so I should head into the ceremony hall now. I’m truly sorry I couldn’t invite you all—it’s a small wedding.”
“Mr. Han Moon Taek, treat us to a fancy meal sometime!”
At one reporter’s playful request, everyone burst into laughter.
“Kim, it should be drinks, not a meal! After all, my son-in-law is the grandson of Chairman Park of K01 Construction! I’ll have him set up a proper drinking table for you—look forward to it!”
Han Moon Taek’s jovial boast drew cheers from the assembled reporters.
Everyone here was seasoned enough to know not a single journalist actually believed the love story Han had spun about his daughter and Head Manager Jin Sunwoo.
They were simply curious about what tricks he’d used to pull off this marriage.
“Thank you all for coming! I’ll be in touch again.”
After bowing to the gathered reporters, Han Moon Taek straightened his chest and walked confidently toward the ceremony hall.
Outside the VIP suite, Green—dressed flawlessly in her wedding gown—was waiting for him.
“Why are you standing here?”
“I was waiting for you, Father.”
“When should we go in? Will someone give us a signal from inside?”
“They said we should go in right away once you arrive.”
“Then let’s go.”
When Green nodded, the waiting staff swung the suite doors wide open. Han Moon Taek strode in proudly beside her.
Inside, the VIP suite was lavishly decorated with sparkling lights and fresh floral arrangements.
As he walked down the aisle with Green, Han Moon Taek couldn’t help but feel regret that so few people would witness this beautiful scene.
Only when he reached the stage, still holding Green’s hand, did he suddenly sense something was wrong.
Jin Young Cheol and Park In Young—his future in-laws—stood on the left side, but the groom Sunwoo was nowhere to be seen. Even the officiant’s seat was empty.
Han Moon Taek looked back and forth between Park In Young and Jin Young Cheol with a bewildered expression.
“Where is my son-in-law?”
“Sunwoo left for Incheon Airport two hours ago,” Park In Young said after checking her wristwatch, her voice calm and measured.
“He should be boarding his flight to Paris by now.”
“What—what did you say?”
Han Moon Taek was utterly shocked. Green, however, covered her mouth with her bouquet and smiled brightly.
She was thoroughly pleased with the grand “screw-you” Jin Sunwoo had prepared especially for her father.
In truth, Green had already heard Sunwoo’s plan for a “groomless wedding” the day before their formal engagement meeting.
“To be honest—it’s perfect. It’s even better than I expected; I’m actually looking forward to the ceremony now.”
Just imagining her father at the wedding he’d been eagerly awaiting, unable to see even a shadow of his son-in-law, kept making her laugh.
“Father was clearly planning to grab Jin Sunwoo and make all sorts of requests the moment he showed up as his new father-in-law. But since Sunwoo isn’t even in Korea, Father won’t get to see his face—let alone make any demands.”
Her voice, initially lighthearted as she pictured Han Moon Taek’s frustration, soon grew tinged with worry.
“A few days ago, I overheard Father on a phone call. It seems more and more people around him lately have been proposing business partnerships—claiming they could create synergy once Jin Sunwoo inherits K1 Construction.”
A long silence followed on the other end of the line. After a moment, Sunwoo spoke.
Though Sunwoo didn’t elaborate further, Green was already fully satisfied with his plan—which was why she’d attended the engagement meeting so willingly.
Han Moon Taek stood frozen in place, stammering in disbelief at the news that Sunwoo had already boarded his flight to Paris. Meanwhile, Mother-in-law In Young turned to Green as if nothing had happened and said calmly,
“You just need to sign the marriage registration form here. Sunwoo already signed his part.”
“Yes, I understand.”
Green walked over to the small table In Young indicated. On it lay the official marriage registration form, bearing Sunwoo’s neat signature.
Before signing, Green looked toward Sunwoo’s father, Jin Young Cheol. He stared back at her hand without even blinking—his expression that of a man who had lost everything, as if the slightest touch might make him break down in tears.
Only then did Green fully grasp just how deeply Jin Young Cheol hated this marriage.
By signing this form, she realized, she would complete Sunwoo’s grand “screw-you” to his own father.
Feeling Jin Young Cheol’s eyes fixed on her fingertips, Green gripped the pen firmly and signed with more force than usual.
“Huh…”
Though she quickly covered her mouth, everyone still heard the sob escape Jin Young Cheol’s lips. Park In Young merely glanced at her husband without a word.
‘He really must despise the idea of me becoming his daughter-in-law.’
As she capped the pen, Green muttered inwardly. Well—she didn’t particularly like Jin Young Cheol either, so she didn’t feel wronged in the least.
“It’s all done now.”

After carefully checking the form, Park In Young handed it to Han Moon Taek.
“Shall we handle submitting the marriage registration, or would you like to do it yourself?”
“I’ll… do it myself.”
Even in his dazed state, the ever-distrustful Han Moon Taek refused to hand over the marriage form to Park In Young.
In that regard, Green actually felt a flicker of respect for her father.
With trembling hands, Han Moon Taek accepted the form and looked back at Park In Young.
“Why did my son-in-law go to France?”
“He won the bid for a private resort project in Marseille. He worked hard on this, and the results just came through.”
“So his business trip will be quite long, then. How long exactly…?”
“If it’s short, a year and a half; I’m expecting two years. Of course, it could take even longer.”
“What?”
Han Moon Taek, who had been forcing himself to stay calm, finally exploded at the news that Sunwoo wouldn’t return from France for two whole years.
“I was willing to accept that such an important man had to leave urgently without even attending the ceremony. But are you seriously telling me my precious daughter must endure a two-year-long lonely vigil?”
“That’s strange—did you really think these two could have a normal married life even if Sunwoo hadn’t gone on this trip?”
“What’s so impossible about it?”
At Han Moon Taek’s defiant retort, Park In Young gave a cold laugh. Having decided he wasn’t worth her time anymore, she reverted to her detached, businesslike demeanor.
“As promised, we’ve handed you the marriage registration form right after the ceremony so you can submit it immediately. Please make sure you fully understand the terms of our contract, Mr. Han Moon Taek.”
“Then… what’s going to happen to my daughter now?”
“Green will simply live in the house Sunwoo used to live in until he returns. After all, she’s our daughter-in-law now.”
With that, Park In Young—who clearly felt all business was concluded—told Jin Young Cheol, still lost in despair, that it was time to leave.
Jin Young Cheol snapped out of his daze, shot sharp glances first at Han Moon Taek and then at Green, and strode out of the hall ahead of everyone.
Park In Young turned to Green and said,
“Follow me.”
Since Sunwoo hadn’t told her what would happen after the ceremony, Green followed Park In Young slowly, slightly flustered.
“G-Green…”
She heard her father’s pitiful voice from behind.
Instinctively turning around, she saw Han Moon Taek standing there helplessly, clutching the marriage registration form in one hand.
The confident man who had just moments ago given spirited interviews in front of countless reporters was nowhere to be seen.
Green turned her gaze back to Jin Young Cheol and Park In Young—the in-laws now walking away.
Though her mother-in-law, who controlled her emotions with absolute discipline, felt more difficult to deal with than her blatantly hostile father-in-law, it still seemed far easier than enduring a father who disguised his own desires as his daughter’s happiness.
‘You brought this on yourself, Father.’
With a cool glance at Han Moon Taek, Green turned slowly and followed Park In Young.

Dong Xia lost her memory.
Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”
Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.
…
The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.
She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.
Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.
No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!
Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂
*
Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.
The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.
In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.
The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.
And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.
