[Why is that?]

For some reason, Delina felt Betty might actually do just that. In response to Delina’s question, Betty quietly murmured,

Startled by Betty’s chilling mutter, Delina flinched, prompting Betty to quickly change her words.

[Still, since this is a social gathering, it’s better to handle things in a manner befitting such an occasion.]
