Har Chen spoke indifferently, placing his hand on the railing and looking down below.

He imagined the girl—her golden hair neatly braided on both sides—leaping nimbly through the green foliage.

She must have looked like a fairy.

He was certain that Patricia’s bright and unbending character, formed despite years confined in a tower, was the result of her strict maid Eva’s special affection and tireless efforts.

Instead of deciding to warn the maid about her rigid moral teachings, he turned around, already considering rewarding her.

Eden picked up the floral shears he’d dropped onto the garden soil and began pruning the branches of a flowering shrub. Whenever he had a moment of spare time, he’d come to the western tower, throw open the glass windows, and tend to the garden.

He weeded out the wild grass and trimmed the flowering shrubs. Eva and Annie had said they’d like to stay here once Patrick became emperor. Perhaps one day, Patricia might visit and want to look around.

“My lord… Do you happen to have any poems on you?”

“No, I don’t.”

Eden absentmindedly placed a hand on his waist and turned—only to lock eyes with the emperor watching him.

It was awkward. Just as he tried to avert his gaze, the emperor chuckled softly and suddenly hopped up onto the railing. Then, gripping a leather rope attached to the stone wall, he leapt down.

‘What… What’s he doing? It’s not like it’s that high.’

Eden turned away and pushed aside the stem of a purple hydrangea whose tiny petals had fully bloomed, pulling out the weeds around its roots.
