Har Chen and his party arrived late at night at Count Retman’s estate on the outskirts of Tane’s capital. They had departed from Panaseong with the witness Roan, alternating between train and horseback over three days, and had only managed brief naps aboard the train.

After instructing the steward to escort Roan and the royal guards to their quarters, the party of Emperor Karsik was personally led to the grand assembly hall. Kalip and Lean followed closely behind Har Chen.

When Har Chen stepped into the assembly hall, thirty nobles—including the seven ducal lords of the Tane Duchy—rose in unison and knelt, bending their knees in salute. Patrick walked around the table and offered a respectful greeting.

“The Golden Sun of the Blazing Empire, Your Imperial Majesty—I welcome you. Though your journey was long and arduous, your presence gives me great strength and reassurance.”

“Patrick, you’re the most pleasant sight I’ve seen in a while.”

“Huh?”

“Well… perhaps not in this setting.”

Har Chen leaned slightly toward Patrick and murmured,

“I thought I’d die these past two days from missing Patricia so badly—at least seeing someone who resembles her helps ease the ache a little.”

Patrick couldn’t suppress a laugh, utterly flabbergasted by the remark.

Some of the ducal lords couldn’t believe the Emperor of Karsik would support Crown Prince Tane’s rebellion and even bring a witness himself.

Having only observed Har Chen during Academy days—without direct interaction—and relying solely on his outward appearance and baseless rumors, most remembered and judged him as an arrogant, aloof crown prince.

Yet merely his attendance at the meeting, standing firmly by their side, was heartening enough—and during the session, he even voiced support for Patrick’s proposal to secure Arcan Continent’s inviolability, peace treaties, and legal reforms.

In truth, from the ducal lords’ perspective—having endured decades of political and economic oppression after King Kazan stripped them of their kingdom—some had secretly weighed the potential fallout for the realm if Patrick’s declaration of duchy independence failed.

By the time the meeting and final schedule checks concluded, the nobles’ prejudices against Har Chen had melted away like snow under sunlight.
