Har Chen lowered the hand that had been braced against the wall, glancing past her at the fifteenth Empress Berk glaring at him from behind.

He straightened his posture and pulled on gloves from his dress uniform trousers’ pocket.
“And, Your Highness, in the Karsik Empire, whoever the Emperor summons must come.”
“I also have a request and matters I wish to discuss. However, I’m tired today and would like to rest. I’ll visit you in the audience chamber tomorrow morning.”
Patricia kept her eyes fixed on the marble floor. Expecting some reply, she was startled when the Emperor remained silent. She lifted her head—and gasped.
Through the glossy black hair, like raven’s feathers, cold green eyes were glaring directly at her.
Startled, Patricia stepped back a pace. The Emperor didn’t move his feet, but bent his large frame forward, using his gloved hand to lift her chin and meet her gaze.
“Listen, Princess. I have appointments tomorrow. Come see me after dinner tonight.”
Patricia turned away after watching the Emperor’s rigid back disappear down the corridor with long strides.
Did I do something wrong? He seems to dislike me somewhat. Surely he isn’t still holding a grudge over my escape when I was a prisoner.
She shook her head slightly, then stopped walking.
Could he have someone else he’s fond of? If so, he should’ve declined the state marriage. Though perhaps it was a negotiated arrangement, so he couldn’t refuse. Ah—I should’ve asked him to bring Patrick here.

After emerging from the water, his ear tips turned red. He lightly brushed his cheek, tucking his sideburns behind his ear, revealing delicate, pink-tinged ear tips. He lowered his gaze, too embarrassed to look at her.

Re-reading this chapter, it made realize how little Patricia regarding her life compared to Patrick, all because of her guilt over her twin’s sickness which she assumed caused by her taking away his nutrition during pregnancy (in my opinion, it’s an entirely absurd superstition and baseless theory at best). Glad Patricia has come far by started relying in Harchen until she can trust him and vice versa.
Oh! Harcen made a surf board and have Patricia surfing at the sea? That’s so nice of him! If I were her, I too would be thrilled as I riding the waves.
Could it be the grave with the red hibiscus is the late Empress’ (a.k.a Patricia and Patrick’s mom) grave? Talk about cutting onion.
