Captured into the Bedroom of the Enemy Emperor (1 Chapters Left to Complete) - Chapter 13
Emperor Matthias Eint Karl Berk has passed away. Pamila recalled the Karsik Empire, where she had gone on a winter hunt with Emperor Kazan.
The diamond mine buried beneath frozen glaciers, emitting an enigmatic glow, and the golden fields flashed before her eyes. Pamila grew anxious.
She urged Emperor Kazan to declare war. The Karsik Empire was in political turmoil, and Har Chen was a young emperor with no experience in warfare.
However, Kazan had no intention of breaking the peace treaty with Karsik. A war with an empire overflowing with gold would easily afford mercenaries. Though Har Chen was young and inexperienced in battle, he was a predator.
His swordsmanship during their academy days had left her utterly awestruck—utterly overwhelming. Above all, a predator recognizes another predator. With just his piercing gaze, he subdued his opponents; he was not someone who would ever let go of what was his.
In her youth, when blue veins pulsed beneath her skin, she might have dared to challenge him. But now, the only heirs she had were the feeble Patrick and the hot-headed Chris.
Hmm, Kazan briefly thought of Patricia in her silver armor, but quickly shook his head. War was indeed out of the question.
Pamila coaxed Emperor Kazan like a child, using both poison and antidote. Slowly, the emperor’s body and mind were being consumed by the poison she administered.
She used just enough poison to avoid endangering his life, and whenever he took the antidote, his mind became as clear as a flowing stream, enabling him to attend to state affairs lucidly.
Pamila longed to dispose of the emperor, who resembled a rotting old tree.
Yet, she could not break through the layers of surveillance—the Noble Council, the Ebas Family closely tied to the imperial house and controlling the capital, the Valenti Family of the Torun Kingdom (the late Empress Aldisha’s birth family), the Imperial Guard, and the Knights Order.
Moreover, even if the emperor died without a proper plan, she would gain nothing for herself.
Her own birth family, the Lasbur House, could not support Pamila’s ambitions.
She reached out to nobles outside the imperial bloodline, gradually entangling them until, at the perfect moment, she yanked them under the hem of her skirt.
Whenever she needed the emperor’s signature, Pamila used the poison, and a few days later administered the antidote—tightening and loosening his leash at will.
When he ultimately refused to declare war, Pamila turned as cold as a meteor thrown into a winter gorge.
She summoned a secret council with the nobles ensnared beneath her skirts to devise a cunning plan.
Pamila administered a lethal poison to the emperor.
War with the Karsik Empire—just the thought of it thrilled her.
Her plan was for the Karsik Emperor to eliminate Patrick. After sending reinforcements, she aimed to secure mining rights to the Kaosan gold mines through negotiations, with the ultimate goal of arranging a state marriage between Chris, once elevated to Crown Prince, and a Karsik princess.
But instead of Patrick, it was armored Patricia who ruined everything.
“Damn that wench.”
Though she’d known of Patricia’s existence—she had always been a shadow princess—Pamila now trembled with regret: she should have eliminated her the moment she saw those wide, startled eyes and that tiny body wielding a sword half her height.
Pamila ground her teeth. Her mind twisted toward malice, sifting through a waterfall of schemes until she grasped one that seemed plausible.
This plot absolutely had to succeed.
Pamila added the antidote to the tonic she presented to the emperor.
“Your Majesty, you must trust me. This is the best course for the Tane Empire.”
Emperor Kazan took the negotiation draft to be sent to the Karsik Emperor from Pamila’s hands with trembling fingers.
“Your Majesty, all you need to do is sign here.”
[This is the timeline separator]The delegation, carrying the treaty bearing Emperor Kazan’s own signature, crossed the border and headed toward Panaho’s Red Forest.
The Karsik Empire’s glacial Kaosan had thawed for the brief summer. Black water, laced with obsidian dust, flowed through the valley.
In early summer, the Kaosan valley shimmered with bright yellow gold where the obsidian-laced black water had passed. As the glaciers melted, the mountains revealed luminous, transparent diamonds.
Har Chen led ten thousand soldiers through the lower Tamill Valley toward Panaho.
The Tane delegation, entering the Red Forest, halted their gallop. Sensing the earth tremble, they calmed their frightened horses, which reared in alarm.
Countless soldiers surged toward the Red Forest through clouds of rising dust like billowing smoke.
The thirty-member delegation stood still, raising a white flag even higher than the Tane imperial banner.
“Your Majesty, they’re Tane soldiers.”
Kalip, riding beside the emperor, called out.
“I know. Halt.”
At Kalip’s signal, the soldiers behind pulled their mounts’ reins and stopped. As the dust settled, a small delegation appeared across the way.
The Tane imperial flag bearing a black lion and a white flag were visible.
The emperor nodded to Deputy Commander Kalip. Kalip and three knights spurred their horses toward the Tane delegation.
The delegation dismounted and respectfully bowed to the Karsik Emperor, lowering their left knee and pressing their foreheads against their arms.
Kalip received the sealed imperial letter, opened the case, withdrew the draft, unfolded it, and handed it to the emperor.
The emperor unrolled the treaty. His face flushed red as he read its contents.
“This… pleases me greatly.”
Tucking the rolled-up treaty back into its case at his waist, he ordered his deputy commander:
“Kalip, inform them I accept the negotiation.”
Kalip quickly assessed the emperor’s expression, curious about the terms. It didn’t look bad—in fact, it was far from his usual cold demeanor.

‘Wait… is he actually smiling…?’
“John.”
As the deputy commander approached, the head of the delegation could barely conceal his taut anxiety.
“Relay this: His Imperial Majesty, the Emperor of Karsik, has accepted the negotiation.”
“I acknowledge the command of His Majesty, the Sun of the Blazing Empire.”
The delegation head bowed once more toward the emperor, then rose to his feet.
Mounting his horse, he and his delegation swiftly wheeled around and galloped away.
“Lean!”
At the emperor’s call, Lean rushed over and knelt on one knee.
“Assemble two squads of Blade Shadows and follow the delegation. One squad will scout the Tane palace and report back. You, Lean, are to capture the princess. No—escort her.”
“Huh? The princess?”
Both the deputy commander and Lean, who had by now drawn near, asked simultaneously. The emperor looked down at his two subordinates and smirked, lifting one corner of his mouth.
‘He really is smiling.’
Ever since learning at dawn that the captive princess had escaped, the emperor’s grim expression had chilled the very air around him. Now, after reading the Tane negotiation draft, his demeanor had completely changed.
“Your Majesty, I beg your pardon—what do the terms say?”
“Patricia.”
Simply uttering her name sent warmth flooding through Har Chen’s chest.
Just come before me. Come here, and we’ll see.
When he’d seen the severed leather straps dangling from his bedpost at dawn, his eyes had nearly rolled back in fury. He’d been ready to storm the Tane palace, seize her, and slash his sword violently before her eyes.
Emperor Kazan of the Tane Empire clearly stated, despite the outbreak of war due to misunderstandings caused by exchanged letters, that he had no intention of waging war against the Karsik Empire.
He added further:
I, Kazan Kaliyan Evis, Emperor of the Tane Empire, hereby propose a state marriage between myself and Princess Patricia Kaliyan Evis to maintain a close relationship with the Karsik Empire.
What on earth was this? His heart suddenly lightened. It felt as though the whole sky belonged to him.
“A state marriage with the Tane princess.”
“…Huh? A state marriage?”
Kalip fell silent, rubbing his chin as he thought.
He had been by Har Chen’s side since the emperor’s birth. Har Chen never made impulsive decisions—not even on trivial matters.
He was always cautious, calculating repeatedly, predicting outcomes, and only acting once his certainty neared perfection.
Even as crown prince, he’d convened Round Table Councils, interrogating nobles and ministers of internal and external affairs so relentlessly they’d nearly fainted, refusing to end sessions until he received definitive answers.
Moreover, there was Princess Julia Leac, who had adored Har Chen since childhood.
After the Arcan Continent Peace Accord, under the pretext of fostering friendly exchange between the two empires, she’d followed Har Chen to the Tane Academy.
Though publicly her mission was imperial-sanctioned cultural diplomacy, her true purpose had always been Har Chen.
Everyone in the palace and among the capital’s nobility knew it—the only man she considered her betrothed was Har Chen. Immediately after graduating from the academy, she’d begged Duke Leac to submit her marriage proposal to the emperor.
The late emperor had readily accepted, but the engagement ceremony had been postponed due to his passing.
After Har Chen’s ascension, Duke Leac proposed to the Empress Dowager that the engagement be held.
That very morning, as the Empress Dowager reviewed the imperial calendar over breakfast, a messenger hawk arrived from the border marquis.
It carried news that tens of thousands of Tane soldiers, without any declaration of war, had invaded. Their cavalry was reportedly armed with crossbows, maces, swords, and shields.
Deputy Commander Kalip, recalling that morning, felt dizzy.
The Tane army had set fires and raised Tane banners throughout the Red Forest.
By the time the emperor and his guard reached Panaho, the Karsik border marquis still hadn’t identified the enemy commander or assessed troop strength.
They’d been completely fooled by the enemy general’s mercenary tactics and waited helplessly until the Karsik emperor and his forces arrived.
The emperor charged into the Red Forest with his guard. To assess enemy strength, he lured them toward the Tamill Valley. After relentless pursuit, he finally captured their commander.
To everyone’s astonishment, the Tane commander was neither crown prince nor prince—but a princess. Kalip had grown suspicious the moment the emperor gave his own chambers to the captive, and his instincts had only worsened.
Even more shocking: the imprisoned princess had escaped Panah Fortress as casually as if it were an open cage.
Now, the emperor wanted a state marriage with that fox-like prisoner who’d bewitched everyone and vanished? Worse, he was smiling—not reluctantly, but with evident satisfaction.
Kalip remembered the moment he’d stripped the Tane commander’s uniform on the emperor’s order. Something about her had seemed oddly vacant.
When the armor came off, her body was as slender as a young boy’s, her arms appearing frail. He grimaced just imagining that body swimming across moats and scaling castle walls.
‘What about Duchess Leac, famed as Karsik’s greatest beauty?’
Kalip shook his head, recalling Princess Leac’s obsidian-bright eyes and glossy black hair.
“Your Majesty… surely you don’t mean to… go through with the state marriage?”

“That’s precisely what I intend. Lean! Go capture her.”
I’ll make her regret ever toying with me.
The emperor ground his teeth, remembering the princess who’d mocked him as she scaled the fortress wall.
Lean and the two Blade Shadow squads departed, trailing the Tane delegation.
The emperor ordered his Second Captain to investigate the Red Forest—the site of their first clash. He kept the remaining troops stationed at Panaho Camp and headed to Panah Fortress with Kalip.
They passed through the main gate and across the drawbridge. In front of the main hall stood two ornate carriages side by side—one lavishly decorated in violet with golden trim, the other reserved for imperial administrative affairs.
As the emperor dismounted from his warhorse, the steward and attendants approached. An attendant took the reins of the emperor’s and Kalip’s brown mounts and led them to the stables.
Noticing the emperor’s gaze fixed on the carriages, the steward reported:
“Supplies and Lady Dresses from the capital, Your Majesty.”
“And the carriage in front?”
“Your Majesty, Princess Leac has arrived.”
“Princess Leac?”

Re-reading this chapter, it made realize how little Patricia regarding her life compared to Patrick, all because of her guilt over her twin’s sickness which she assumed caused by her taking away his nutrition during pregnancy (in my opinion, it’s an entirely absurd superstition and baseless theory at best). Glad Patricia has come far by started relying in Harchen until she can trust him and vice versa.
Oh! Harcen made a surf board and have Patricia surfing at the sea? That’s so nice of him! If I were her, I too would be thrilled as I riding the waves.
Could it be the grave with the red hibiscus is the late Empress’ (a.k.a Patricia and Patrick’s mom) grave? Talk about cutting onion.
