“Your Majesty. General Hades has already returned to Caleb’s estate… Uh, yes. He must be treating his injuries.”

Manut, who omitted the subject entirely—leaving unclear whose injuries they were—gave a flexible reply.

Hades had never explicitly ordered Manut to keep Latifa a secret from the Sultan, but Manut’s intuition, honed through years of loyal service, told him to do exactly that.

“Oh dear. Are his injuries so severe he couldn’t even join the procession?”

The Sultan spoke loudly enough for everyone to hear, prompting a brown-haired young man nearby, who had been engaged in quiet conversation, to join the discussion.

“Father, Hades has always been eccentric. He probably insisted on not appearing unless he looked perfectly presentable.”

That young man was Luhan Basil, the Sultan’s firstborn prince.

As the strikingly handsome Luhan appeared, the eyes of all the young women gathered at the banquet turned toward him.

“We greet Prince Luhan.”

“Congratulations on your victory in battle, General Manut. I am truly proud of you all.”

He sat down on a large, plush cushion beside him and patted Manut’s shoulder.

“Hades sent me a dispatch. His injuries aren’t too serious, but he wasn’t in the mood to attend the procession, so he returned to his estate first.”

Luhan omitted the part about Hades requesting a physician skilled in women’s ailments and instead spun a smooth lie.

“Who can ever control that mad dog Hades?”

Iota, seated beside the Sultan, spoke with a haughty, exasperated tone. The Sultan stroked his black beard knowingly.
