Raven came downstairs to head home after working late into the night, but he had no choice but to stop in his tracks upon spotting someone sitting motionless in the otherwise empty space.

Unaware that he was watching her, Ivenel remained utterly focused on her documents.

Raven had intended to simply ignore her and walk past, but in the end, drawn only by the darkness visible beyond the window, he approached her.

“It’s time to head back.”

At the sound of his voice, Ivenel finally looked up from her papers and met his gaze.

“Yes?”

“Check the time.”

Glancing at the clock on the wall, she couldn’t help but be startled. It had clearly been early evening just a moment ago, yet somehow three hours had slipped away unnoticed. Only then did she set down her pen and relax her stiff shoulders.

“It’s already this late? I must’ve been so absorbed in reviewing these documents that I lost track of time. There just seemed to be no end to them.”

Raven glanced briefly at the papers stacked before Ivenel and asked her with a look of curiosity.

“Why are you looking through these?”

“I thought they might be connected to the current case. It’s possible remnants of those groups arrested in the past have resurfaced.”

What she’d been poring over were records of various organizations previously apprehended for illegally trafficking monsters.

“But it doesn’t seem to be related after all. There’s no similarity in their methods or anything like that.”

“No matter how hard you try, no one’s going to change their opinion of you, my lady.”
