Byron readily agreed to send Ivenel to Caries. After all, she had never been particularly helpful to begin with, so he saw this as a perfect opportunity to finally rid himself of a burden.

Yet, not long afterward, the news that reached him wasn’t of Ivenel’s death—but rather the utterly shocking report that she had acquired a mysterious power while in Aodin.

At first, he refused to believe it, but once its truth was confirmed, he decided to simply observe the situation for a while. However, when he even heard stories of her significant contributions during military campaigns, Aodin could no longer afford to remain idle.

Under the current circumstances, they absolutely had to retrieve Ivenel. But Caries stubbornly ignored all their requests, and time slipped away helplessly.

“I hear she’s apparently sided completely with Caries now.”

“If only we’d brought Lady Ivenel back sooner, things wouldn’t have come to this. What do you intend to do now, Duke Byron?”

From Byron’s perspective, this was deeply unfair. Everyone had been so quick to agree on sending Ivenel to Caries before, yet now they were blaming him alone.

“Everyone agreed to send Ivenel—why change your minds now? Did you really expect me to foresee how things would turn out?”

Because of Ivenel, he now found himself sitting squarely on a bed of thorns. Being condemned as if he were a traitor, it was only natural that all his resentment turned toward Ivenel.

Though, truthfully, he—who hadn’t even shown his face once before Ivenel left Aodin—hardly had the right to claim he was the wronged party.

“Enough. For now, our priority is finding a way to contact Lady Ivenel.”

“We understand she’s currently residing in the imperial palace.”

If that had been possible, Byron would have already attempted to reach Ivenel long ago. But exchanging letters with her—or even traveling to Caries at this point—was far from easy.

Everyone knew that stepping foot there without permission could get one’s head instantly severed by Suhel’s hand. Thus, no one volunteered to go.

“Besides, the Emperor of Caries won’t simply hand her over willingly.”
