Demil followed Ivenel through the door marked “Archives” and asked her.

“What are you looking for?”

“All incidents involving monsters that occurred in the capital within the past five years.”

“All of them? That would be a considerable amount of material.”

“It doesn’t seem like that’s the issue right now, does it?”

Demil turned his head toward where Ivenel gestured and saw it too—the documents cluttering one entire wall, half-buried in swirling dust.

“Do you think I can find what I need here?”

“I’ll go get them—”

“No need.”

They doubted anyone would kindly tell them where things were, judging by the unfriendly glances already directed their way.

It would be more efficient to search for the documents themselves than waste time arguing over it.

“Let’s look ourselves. We also promised not to interfere with the city guard’s duties.”

Seeing Ivenel roll up her sleeves, Demil joined her without hesitation. As they carefully sifted through the piles of documents, she cautiously asked him first.

“Were you already acquainted with Sir Raven?”

Truthfully, Raven’s last words to him had been weighing on her mind. At her question, Demil’s hands, busy sorting through papers, froze abruptly.
