Can an Enemy Become Salvation? (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 66
“Lady Henea was here too. I kept inviting you, but you always refused, so I thought something must have happened—but I never expected to see you here.”
Karan, seemingly shifting her target to Henea, spoke in a tone laced with mockery.
Ivenel could sense the condescension toward Henea in those words, and her previously uplifted mood upon meeting Henea plummeted once again.
‘So this is how it is.’
She now understood a little better why Henea had been so surprised by her words last time. Forcing Henea into their narrow standards made it impossible for them to recognize her true worth.
Henea remained silent, either because she was accustomed to such situations or simply didn’t care at all.
“It seems you’ve grown quite close to Lady Ivenel already. Well, you do suit each other.”
Ivenel, realizing the words weren’t praise but carried a negative implication, was about to flare up and step forward—but Henea broke her silence first.
“Thank you for the compliment.”
“Huh?”
Since it wasn’t meant as a genuine compliment, Karan was taken aback by Henea’s straightforward acceptance. Henea, however, stared directly back at her with her usual blunt gaze.
“You said Lady Ivenel and I suit each other well. To me, that’s a compliment. And it wasn’t an excuse about being busy—it was the truth. I truly had many things to do. But now that I think about it, maybe it was an excuse after all. Even though I had a choice, I chose work over attending.”
Karan’s neck flushed crimson with shame at the implication that she’d been rejected out of dislike. Never before had Henea retaliated like this, leaving Karan utterly speechless.
Ivenel barely suppressed a laugh at the sight. Henea, without changing her expression at all, had firmly subdued her opponent with words alone—revealing herself to be far stronger than she appeared.
“I’m glad too. After all, you said I seem close to Lady Henea, which is exactly what I’d hoped for.”
