Ivenel repeated to Hallan the exact words she had once spoken to those who had tormented Lia.

“What difference would killing one person make to my reputation? As you well know, Duke, everyone’s too busy cursing me anyway.”

Hallan’s expression hardened fiercely at her seemingly mocking words.

“Do you really think you can say that to me and walk away unscathed?”

“Take this opportunity to understand clearly, Your Grace. Someone with nothing to lose has nothing to fear. You, on the other hand, seem to have much to lose—you’d best always be careful. Even I don’t always know where my gun might point next.”

Despite the cruelty of her words, Ivenel wore a smile. She took a moment to look each person in the room in the eye, then finally locked her gaze on Hallan.

Though he glared at her as if ready to kill, she felt no fear at all. In fact, the angrier he became, the more pleased she felt. Seeing his face lifted her spirits, if only slightly.

“Since Your Grace never properly apologized, I won’t offer one either. And since you said you’re busy, I’ll take my leave now.”

As she walked away, the nobles accompanying Hallan—who had been utterly silent until just moments before—immediately changed their stance and raised their voices.

“That insolent…!”

“I’ll go after her—”

“Enough. She isn’t even worth dealing with.”

Hallan moved as if unconcerned, but inwardly, it was the complete opposite. He felt such deep murderous intent that he wanted to kill her right then and there. He was also furious that, even for just a moment, he’d been overwhelmed by such a woman.

‘The day will come when you regret defying me.’

As Hallan’s group walked off, Feldin approached Ivenel, who had been watching them leave.
