Seung Won replied without a flicker of emotion on his face.

“Of course it’d be me.”

“Not really? I didn’t pick you either.”

She must have hoped he’d show a bit of surprise—ask her why with the same shocked expression he’d worn when he’d heard Hye Ju had picked Joo Won.

But Seung Won’s reaction remained as still as a sleeping sea.

“Why?”

Seung Won was the kind of person who simply couldn’t put on a show. He couldn’t say things he didn’t mean, and polite formalities were even harder for him.

That was why Da Hee knew his current reaction came straight from his heart—100% genuine.

It was heartbreaking.

“I just… don’t want to make a scene at work, and… lately, I kind of hate you.”

Only then did Seung Won notice Da Hee’s deflated mood. He’d been so lost in his own thoughts recently that he’d neglected her. Realizing his mistake belatedly, Seung Won pushed his tray aside and looked straight into Da Hee’s eyes.

“It’s not about that. It’s just… it sounds completely unreasonable, but Seung Won, I’m worried about Hye Ju.”

“Why Hye Ju?”

“Be honest—you two were always closer than I was with either of you. So naturally, you’ve been in touch more often.”
