Ha Joon and Seo Ah’s lips fit together seamlessly.

Ha Joon struggled to calm his roughening movements, stirred by excitement.

Today, unlike yesterday, he wanted to kiss her without anger or regret—until she grew tired of it.

He wasn’t sure if his boiling desire could be satisfied through kissing alone, but he couldn’t go on like this without doing something.

After all, he couldn’t foolishly drink wine and take pills again.

“Mmm…”

He let her go briefly, even though they hadn’t kissed for long, noticing she already looked weary.

Kissing was wonderful, but so was watching her face in between kisses—her deeply flushed cheeks, her heavy breaths, her limp posture—it drove him mad with desire.

And though it might be wishful thinking—no, it surely was wishful thinking—it felt as if she was tugging at his collar, as if begging him to keep kissing her.

He knew she’d never actually do that; it was probably just her grip tightening from exhaustion. Yet, part of him still hoped it was real.

So, almost on impulse, he whispered softly, wanting to confirm,

“Tell me if it’s too much. I’ll stop.”

Though honestly, even if she said it was too much, he had no intention of stopping.

Right now, he needed to look out for himself before worrying about her exhaustion.

Yesterday, she had squeezed her eyes shut with determination, her lips fidgeting restlessly. He couldn’t predict how she’d react today.

He’d expected her to show her feelings through actions, not…

“…Please.”

Her small lips moved as she spoke in a barely audible, breathy whisper, making it impossible to understand.

“What was that?”

“Keep going.”

This time, though her voice was still soft, it was clear enough—and he felt her tug at his collar once more.

The moment her words left her lips, Ha Joon plunged in fiercely, hungrily sucking on that unbearably sweet, tender flesh.

Seo Ah felt dazed, as if intoxicated by alcohol, uncertain even of what she’d just said.

She was happy. In this very moment, she didn’t envy any other woman who might have once lain in his arms.

Because right now, he wanted her—was desperate to hold her.

Their lips locked deeply, absorbing all his heat, until she couldn’t even sit up straight anymore.

Her whole body felt like a melting candle, and she had no choice but to lean against his strong arms supporting her neck and waist.

Seemingly a long time had passed, yet this man showed no sign of tiring—relentless and unwavering since the very beginning.

She was certain they’d started in a comfortable position, but now her neck and back ached from being twisted to one side for too long.

Just then,

as if reading her thoughts, he finally pulled away.

Though her body was admittedly weary, she still wanted to keep kissing—but that fleeting disappointment vanished instantly

as Ha Joon buried his face against her neck and bit down hard on her tender skin.

“Huh!”

There was a slight sting, but what overwhelmed her more was the scalding touch of his skin and breath against her neck—tickling, yet setting her entire body aflame.

Was this how they’d end up in bed together right here?

The thought had barely formed when, with a soft pop, their lips parted.

“Haa… go wait in the room.”

Right—they should do it in the bedroom. But why send her alone instead of going together?

“You need to wake up early to catch our flight. You should sleep soon—you sleep a lot anyway.”

Ha Joon gently nudged Seo Ah, who was straddling his lap, as he spoke.

They had a business trip to Jeju Island together the next day.

Their flight was at 7 a.m., so they needed to wake up by 4 and leave for the airport no later than 6. While Ha Joon was used to waking early, he worried about Seo Ah, who needed more sleep.

After Seo Ah left, Ha Joon stayed on the sofa for a while, cooling down.

He hadn’t planned to go to bed with her today.

He’d intended only to kiss her thoroughly—but somehow ended up burying his face in her neck without even realizing it.

That soft, tender flesh was maddeningly sweet.

He knew if he went any further, he wouldn’t be able to stop—so, with great effort, he pulled away.

And to prevent her from squirming in his arms any longer, to stop her from tempting him further, he pushed her away coldly.

Back in her room, Seo Ah immediately checked her neck in the mirror.

Chapter 115 Chapter 114

There it was—the mark she’d only ever heard about.

It was startlingly clear, considering how briefly he’d kissed her.

Its ambiguous placement meant it’d show no matter what she wore, which was awkward—but she didn’t mind.

Every time she saw this mark, the moment would come vividly back to her:

Ha Joon, gently coaxing her, carefully applying ointment, then clutching her desperately as if he couldn’t bear to let go.

She dreaded the thought of that version of him disappearing.

All she hoped was that before he vanished again, he’d leave another mark behind.

Yet, her heart ached—how could the same man who kissed her so desperately just moments ago now push her away with such indifference in his expression and tone?

She felt slightly disappointed, yet also worried. Knowing she slept a lot and needed extra time to get ready, she’d have to wake up even earlier than him to keep up.

So… was she really just going to sleep without doing anything again tonight?

To suppress his surging desire, Ha Joon went to the annex gym for a light workout.

He usually exercised every morning—it had been a long time since he worked out at night. He suspected he’d be doing it often at this hour from now on, since he’d likely keep sharing a room with Seo Ah.

After showering and returning to his room, he was startled to find Seo Ah sitting upright on the bed, though he’d assumed she’d already be asleep.

“Why aren’t you sleeping?”

“I prepared this to share before we sleep.”

On the table she pointed to with her index finger sat a thermos and two teacups—different in design from the ones he’d seen earlier in the study.

Had she prepared it again, risking another injury? Ha Joon sighed inwardly.

“I’ve already brushed my teeth.”

“Oh… Can’t we brush again after? This tea helps you—no, wait, no.”

Seo Ah quickly shook her head, startled by her own words. Seok Hoon had told her not to mention it in front of Ha Joon.

“It’s a stress-relieving tea—good to drink before bed.”

This definitely wasn’t insomnia tea—it was specifically for stress relief!

“I’ve been stressed lately with exams and can’t fall asleep easily… You seem the same, Kang Ha Joon.”

“Light sleep”? As if. She’d been completely out cold earlier. Did she really think he wouldn’t notice if she talked around it like that? At least make the excuse more believable.

“I don’t need your pity—put that away. If you’re going to drink it, go outside and drink it. I’m turning off the light.”

“It’s not pity—it’s concern! Just like when you treated my hand earlier, Kang Ha Joon.”

Ha Joon, who’d been heading toward the bed, stopped in his tracks.

“People make mistakes sometimes. They get hurt. Is that really something to cling to your pride over?”

Mistakes, pain—these were things Ha Joon could never allow himself.

“It’s a difference in values. That’s something I could never accept. And while I admit it was a mistake, it’s not pain—so drop the unnecessary concern.”

“How is it not pain? You had trouble breathing—that could’ve been serious!”

“Fine. I’ve already admitted it was a mistake—how many times do you need me to say it?”

“I couldn’t sleep, so I tried random things and made a mistake. Isn’t it better to find ways to sleep without alcohol or pills?”

“It’s a waste of time. Pills are the fastest solution. And if you’re aiming to become an owner in the group…”

Ha Joon trailed off mid-sentence. Why was he explaining all this in such detail? He never liked sharing his personal life with others.

“…Just turn off the light already.”

He lay down on the bed, pulled the blanket over himself, and closed his eyes.

Perhaps Ha Joon found this unexpected concern overwhelming and awkward.

After all, neither his family nor his caregivers had ever shown any interest in his insomnia.

An awkward silence hung in the air for a moment—then the light went out.

The mattress shifted slightly. Seo Ah must be climbing into bed. She was so light the movement was barely noticeable.

He was worried whether she’d sleep peacefully tonight. The doctor had advised avoiding medication for now to ensure stability,

when suddenly, Seo Ah’s soft, gentle voice reached him in the dark.

“I deliberately chose a diffuser with a light scent. If you don’t like it, just say so—I’ll switch to something else.”

Her voice, echoing alone in the darkness, sounded even sweeter.

“And if you’re not going to do anything… it’s fine to sleep in the study or another room if you’re uncomfortable. If Mom says anything, I’ll make up an excuse.”

She rambled on by herself. If anyone else had done this, he’d have called it nagging—but why did it sound so endearing coming from her?

He wanted to see her—what expression she wore as she spoke.

Even though it was too dark to see clearly, he found himself turning toward her without realizing it, just to catch even her silhouette.

He’d expected her to be lying with her back to him—but thankfully, she was gazing up at the ceiling.

Seo Ah, unaware of his shift, assumed he’d turned away because he didn’t want to listen to her, and kept talking regardless.

“You saw the thermos I left in the study, right? Drink some if you can’t sleep. If it doesn’t help, well…”

She couldn’t finish her sentence.

Ha Joon suddenly pulled her by the arm, and before she knew it, she’d tumbled straight into his large, solid embrace.

She froze like a statue—startled, breath caught in her throat.

She wanted to push him away and ask what he was doing, but she lacked the courage to touch his firm chest—and knew it wouldn’t budge anyway.

She couldn’t roll back the way she came, either—his strong arm was wrapped firmly around her shoulders and back.

Wait—was that his forearm under her head? She never imagined she’d end up using his arm as a pillow like this.

Then his deep, low voice rumbled in the dark.

“Stop chattering and sleep already.”

Another awkward silence fell.

Thump-thump-thump-thump!

With her face so close to his chest, Seo Ah flinched at the sound of his pounding heartbeat.

He must be really angry at her for talking so much, she thought—and obediently closed her eyes.

He must be taking advantage of the fact that while she talked a lot when they were apart, she became completely still when close to him.

She hated how helpless she always felt around him—but couldn’t suppress the fluttering in her chest. After all, this was a position only lovers shared.

She’d assumed that even if they ended up sharing a bed for the sake of conceiving a child, it would be out of obligation—and right after, they’d return to sleeping separately as if nothing happened.

That’s why she’d thought this could never happen.

Yet now, Ha Joon had pulled her close—and was flustered by his own actions.

He’d simply followed his heart and body without thinking.

Maybe he just wanted to see her adorable expression—how she became utterly still in his arms, yet talked endlessly whenever they were even slightly apart.

Each time he felt her squirming uncomfortably, his arm instinctively tightened around her.

He didn’t press their bodies fully together—he knew he wouldn’t be able to hold back if he did. Dangerous heat was already building low in his abdomen.

Clearly, the workout had done absolutely nothing.

Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away

This is also on my reread list!

This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.

Definitely worth a read, y’all!

The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.

But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.

Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.

I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.

The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.

As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
