Whitney boarded the carriage. Her large, wide-openy blue eyes wavered.

She cupped her face with both hands and buried it in her knees.

“It’s done. It’s really done.”

She couldn’t believe it. She hadn’t thought he would truly accept her proposal.

‘I did present an offer he couldn’t refuse… but does he really trust me?’

When she said she didn’t care if she died, his eyes shook for a moment. But she was truly prepared for that much. After all, it was a life that had already died once, wasn’t it?

His face, with its crumbling guard, came to mind. The indifferent expression collapsed, and a smile spread across his face that only his eyes had been smiling with. Warm, yet still not fully relinquishing suspicion.

The blue eyes that never left her curved beautifully in her vivid memory. A person so beautiful she couldn’t look away. Her heart raced at the thought of saving him, who was fighting a lonely battle, from death.

She recalled Chester’s back as he held her hand and led her to the separate palace. His broad back, his hand much larger than hers, the warmth of his hand. The cool breeze that brushed past when the two of them quickly left the empty queen’s palace garden.

Whitney fanned herself to cool her flushed face.

‘This time, he held my hand, not my wrist.’

Didn’t that mean they had gotten a little closer? Whitney fiddled with her hand and looked out the window.

Was it perhaps because she had said it hurt back then? For some reason, she could feel that he was treating her more gently than before.

She wished the debutante day would come soon.
