“I lived here with my father from when I was eight until I was thirteen… so I actually went to elementary school right here.”

Eun Su quietly listened to Ju Han’s childhood story, which she was hearing for the first time.

Even though they had known each other for so long, she realized anew how much she still didn’t know about him. Especially when it came to his childhood—she had never wanted to talk about her own, so she had never asked him either.

“I didn’t realize it at all when I was little, but looking back now, I think I grew up in a really great environment. My father painted, the writer made ceramics, and people with deep artistic taste came and went all the time. Not a single chair or desk was placed meaninglessly or looked out of harmony.”

Eun Su recalled having the exact same thought while looking around the studio and Writer Hwang’s collection, and she nodded vigorously.

Even though Ju Han’s major and previous jobs had nothing to do with furniture, she had always found it amazing how quickly he adapted to life as the CEO of Vida—now she felt like she understood why.

It was because of the eye for design, the sensibility, and the talent he had naturally accumulated and inherited long ago.

“It really was an environment not just anyone could have.”

“You’re right. I used to complain every day that I was bored, but when it was time to leave, I actually felt sad.”

Ju Han smiled softly.

“I wanted to keep living here, but I couldn’t say it. Not to my father, not to my mother, and of course not to Writer Hwang.”

He didn’t resent his father. He knew his father had tried tirelessly to find a way to take his young son to the faraway country where the things he loved were.

He couldn’t hate his mother either. Because at a young age, she had cleared away the difficult path that had almost opened wide before him and laid down a somewhat stifling but smooth one instead.

“The reason I lived like strangers with my father until he passed away… as a kid, it somehow felt like I was betraying my mother. I was also afraid that if she found out we were in contact, all hell would break loose. The two of them were so extremely incompatible, and my mother complained whenever she could about the way my father had raised me. I was busy being remade until I met my mother’s standards.”

I still wonder why on earth they got married and how they even had me. Ju Han added as a joke.
