One cart, once filled, departed, and another empty one rolled in. The knights kept dragging prisoners out from the underground dungeon.

It was a horrifying spectacle. Blood-soaked prisoners were loaded onto carts one by one and vanished somewhere. Pheon, who stood silently watching and directing the scene, bore a face utterly devoid of expression—so chillingly blank.

Though Beatrice had mostly seen gentle and lovely sights, it wasn’t as if she’d never encountered anything like this before. Yet, strangely, the continuous sight of prisoners being carted away felt deeply grotesque. And Pheon, quietly observing each of them one by one, was the most grotesque of all.

Did she really have to meet Pheon at a time like this?

‘Why of all times…’

Beatrice couldn’t look away from that fleeting moment. Everything converged onto that single man, who stood still as if endlessly swallowing everything around him. It was overwhelmingly beautiful—and terrifying.
