She stepped off the stage and ran up the stairs. The sound of her hurried footsteps echoed chaotically inside the theater.

It felt like it was taking several times longer than when she had come down.

At the door she had finally reached, Da Jung bent forward at the waist, breathing heavily.

Had the fire already chased her this far? She wanted to check—but feared what she might see.

He gripped the handles on both sides of the exit door and pushed outward firmly. The tall, long doors slowly parted and began to open.

The boy looked puzzled and scanned the doorframe with his eyes. Then he pushed the handles again, harder this time.

His feet, braced against the floor, slid backward, and his hands turned pale. Though he was clearly exerting significant force, the door refused to budge further.

Da Jung hastily placed her hands over the handles, trying to add her strength.
