“I believe in you, Anne.”

She pressed firmly on the joined hands and carefully pulled Anne toward her until Anne sat down in the chair opposite.

“Will you tell me about her?”

Olivia whispered, stroking the small back of Anne’s hand with her thumb. Scattered across that hand were scars—marks earned from shielding Olivia since childhood.
