The threat of a woman who could be subdued was as laughable as a dog’s barking, yet the man raised both hands to calm Diane down.

“Oh, oh. Such a temper.”

These items had come from the Duke’s vault. How could they be compared to the shoddy stolen goods brought in by petty thieves? He’d simply have to endure it.

“Please calm down. Calm yourself. I’m so scared I might wet myself.”

The man feigned innocence and lowered the gun barrel pointed at her.

“If you understand, start by drawing the design.”

This wasn’t the first time. Diane issued orders with practiced ease.

Whenever the Brook baron’s household urgently needed money, it always went like this.

The method involved receiving forgeries from the man and swapping them for the real items. Already, four forged pieces sat in Great Hill’s vault—and by now, they were all fakes.

Even if Diane’s involvement were discovered after she left, they’d never find her. And even if the man were caught, there’d be no cause for worry.

“Who hired you for this job?”

Wind rushed through the worn wooden window frame. A single candle flickered violently. Following its dance, the shadows cast upon Diane’s face writhed grotesquely.

“Olivia Blanchet.”

The man grinned, revealing crooked teeth, and upended his bag. Diane burst into laughter as jewels spilled onto the table.

This affair would be made to appear as having occurred before Olivia ever demanded a divorce.
