The memory of being held in Jun’s arms for so long last night still felt vivid—the lingering sensation imprinted on my skin. Over and over, Jun’s face from that night kept unexpectedly flashing before my eyes, whispering words of love between warm, heavy breaths.

Each time, I had to shake my head from side to side. My cheeks kept flushing hot again and again, as if they’d catch fire any second.

I stepped onto the wooden stairs. From the kitchen came the steady, rhythmic thud of a knife—Jun must be preparing something.

To get to the bathroom, I had to pass through the kitchen. Oddly enough, that made me happy; my footsteps would be drowned out by those sounds.

Just as my foot touched the last wooden step, I glanced toward the kitchen. Jun stood with his back turned, seemingly grating a lemon. While his focus was fixed on the lemon, I hurried toward the bathroom. But then—

“What’s the rush?”

Jun had already turned toward me, holding a half-squeezed lemon, asking so casually it felt perfectly natural. The moment I met his eyes—eyes that seemed to say, “Where do you think you’re running off to?”—my body jolted visibly.

“I thought you’d come out all bundled up in your blanket. Glad to see you actually got dressed properly.”

“…Someone kept peeking, so I figured I’d better.”

I tried hard to sound indifferent, as if he didn’t matter to me at all, and was about to give him one quick glance and keep walking.

“Ha Ru, you like avocado, right?”

His words made me pause mid-step.

I glanced at the table—ciabatta bread, tomatoes, and onions were neatly arranged, their colors bright and inviting. Beside them sat a bowl filled with finely mashed avocado, its hue a soft blend of light green and yellow.

Just from the ingredients, it was clear he was making avocado sandwiches.
