Actually, I wrote this in ballpoint pen on the wide white margin beside Ji Hoon’s profile picture:

[First Choice]

Judging by the audition atmosphere, I thought Jun wouldn’t really disagree—but Jun looked oddly dissatisfied and annoyed.

Eventually seeming to decide it just wouldn’t do, Jun leaned his upper body closer toward me. Startled by his approach, I instinctively tilted my body to the left. Jun glanced at me out of the corner of his eye, then tapped the word I’d written with his fingertip.

I stared at the tip of his finger, then raised my head again. Jun’s expression clearly read, “Why is Ji Hoon your first choice?”—and it looked deeply displeased.

I was puzzled. Or perhaps… was it because you still aren’t fully convinced that Ji Hoon perfectly fits the role of twenty-year-old Jun?

I decided to add a clue next to the word I’d just written. I placed my pen-holding hand over that word. Jun leaned deeply toward me, his eyes tracking me from very close range. Without thinking, I wrote over the word again:

[For Me]

The phrasing now felt more precise: [My First Choice]. Meaning Ji Hoon was my first choice for that role.

Instantly, Jun’s brows drew together. Following the slow, one-sided lift of his lips, I could tell his mouth was full of complaints.

Soon enough, as if he’d found a way to voice his discontent, Jun snatched the pen resting on his seat and started scribbling something.

But as my eyes trailed the shape Jun’s hand was making, a soft smile bloomed on my lips.

Jun had drawn an arrow next to [My First Choice]—an arrow pointing directly at you.

My cheeks lifted involuntarily with that sudden smile. To keep it from growing wider, I gently bit my lower lip. Then I brought my right hand down to the blank space beneath those words and, carefully aligning it symmetrically, drew a heart.

Kim Jun, you’re absolutely right. You’re my first choice.
