“If the story in the film had been filled only with excitement, it would’ve been nice—but it wasn’t. Ji Hoon, the lead actor, must’ve especially gone through a lot emotionally.”

Jun spoke calmly. The fact that the film’s narrative didn’t end with mere excitement also meant that our love had truly been like that—in real life. That period he’d described, after our breakup, when it felt as if he carried thorns lodged deep in his heart, would undoubtedly become part of the movie too.

Listening to his calm voice, I alone couldn’t stay composed.

Not even when I placed my hand on Jun’s chest, trying to draw out the pain nestled there. Even if I couldn’t stop that pain from leaking through the spaces between my slender fingers touching his chest.

Still, I knew for certain I’d once held that pain inside my own heart.

“The crew members who watched Ji Hoon’s performance must’ve grown exhausted mentally and physically as well. Yet, you empathized deeply with Ha Ru and Jun’s love, and even with the unexpected sorrow that came our way—you cried alongside us at times. Thank you. I’m so grateful and reassured that you never tired of my shortcomings and stuck with me faithfully until the very end.”

Soon, the room filled with the sound of everyone’s applause, and within that sound, sincerity rippled warmly toward Jun.

“Oh, by the way—don’t forget. There are still some shots left to film in Korea. So for those of you who thought, ‘Finally, free from his nagging!’ and let your guard down, it’s not over yet.”

“Oh, right! It’s not over yet!” came playful remarks from somewhere in the room. Everyone’s laughter grew even richer for a moment.

“But we really are at the finish line now, so please, everyone, just hang in there a little longer. That’s all from me.”

Having finished speaking, Jun folded his long legs and returned to his seat. His slightly flushed face turned toward me and smiled. “You’ve worked so hard, Jun Ah,” I wanted to say—but since I couldn’t voice it aloud, I let the words bloom into a smile instead. Had that feeling already reached you? His eyes, slowly closing and then opening again, were brimming with love.

Soon, the ryokan staff began bringing out dishes representing spring and summer onto the large table for six.

On long, round, large and small plates sat an array of colorful, bite-sized seasonal delicacies. It felt like playing pretend kitchen with real food.

Our individual rice servings came in tiny, pot-shaped wooden bowls, each with a latticed lid. On the small iron griddles set before each of us sat a little pat of butter—we were meant to place slices of beef on top and grill them ourselves.

“This setup seems perfect for us beef lovers,” Ji Hoon said with a bright, clear laugh.
