The breeze brushing against his cheek was soft, the sand gleamed white, and the sea meeting the sky was beautiful. Tae Seo had set just one goal for this vacation.

To be lazy about everything except Yoon Jae In.

And he was faithfully carrying out that plan.

He kept his phone far away, checking it only once a day—right after waking—and never even took his tablet or laptop out of his bag. That meant he poured every single moment of his time entirely into Yoon Jae In.

But today, upon waking late, Tae Seo saw the missed calls piling up on his phone, spotted Executive Director Jang’s name among them, and sat up.

Executive Director Jang, who had stayed behind in Korea to wrap up the tasks he’d assigned, was due to arrive in the U.S. soon.

She knew better than anyone how relentlessly Tae Seo had worked over the past year. Precisely for that reason, she’d promised not to disturb his long-awaited vacation unless it was urgent—only sending emails otherwise.

Yet she’d called, which meant something required his immediate attention. So he carefully rose from beside the sleeping Jae In, took his phone, and stepped out onto the terrace without waking her.

“Yes, Representative.”

Executive Director Jang had started calling Tae Seo “Representative” ever since he took over as interim chairman of Kang Seon Group—a subtle acknowledgment of his wish to sever ties with Kang Seon entirely.

“What is it?”

“It’s news of Jung Jae Hoon’s passing.”

Found dumped in the mountains after a brutal beating and rolling down a slope, Jung Jae Hoon had been conscious but unable to move even a finger.
