A Thrilling Divorce (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 3
Ji Sung remained sulky, his anger still not subsiding even after time had passed. So Myung hadn’t used to be like this—she seemed to keep changing.
Back in college, she had been the idol of her male classmates and seniors alike. Not only was she beautiful, but she was also kind to everyone and incredibly smart, which meant countless male students harbored secret crushes on So Myung.
Everyone had envied him for becoming her boyfriend. Back then, merely knowing that So Myung loved him made him feel as though he’d already gained the whole world. That was the woman she used to be.
Ji Sung didn’t exactly dislike her now. It was just that suddenly, Ra Hee Chae—a fresh, youthful woman—had appeared before him, and he now wanted to bet everything on her the same way he once had with So Myung.
Just as work was nearly wrapping up, a message arrived from Ra Hee Chae.
[Oppa, will you come over to my place today?]Ji Sung’s heart pounded wildly the moment he read her message. He felt as if his heart might burst from the excitement—a fluttering sensation he hadn’t felt in ages.
He’d long forgotten his promise to So Myung to come home early that morning. All he could do now was glance repeatedly at the clock, desperately waiting for quitting time.
Since being seen together at the office might cause rumors, they always met somewhere else.
But ever since last night, when they’d confirmed their feelings for each other even more deeply, an even fiercer fire had ignited in both their hearts.
Now he even wanted to see her in the company’s rarely used emergency stairwell—there was no doubt he’d fallen hard for her.
And today, she’d invited him right into her home. Ji Sung felt so elated he could practically soar through the sky. He stopped by a nearby florist to buy flowers and swung by a department store to pick up a bottle of premium wine.
Then he headed straight for her officetel. A cheerful hum escaped his lips without him even noticing.
He straightened his clothes in front of her door, pressed the doorbell, and the door opened—to reveal Ra Hee Chae rushing out in just a slip, throwing her arms tightly around him.
Caught completely off guard by such an unexpectedly bold welcome, Ji Sung couldn’t hide his excited expression.
The instant she touched his body, he’d already lost all self-control.
Ji Sung practically threw his bag, the wine, and the bouquet onto the floor and charged toward her.
They stared into each other’s eyes with the desperate longing of lovers who hadn’t seen each other in years.
After barely managing to pull away from Ji Sung’s frenzied kisses, Ra Hee Chae gave him a sultry look.
“Oppa, I love you.”
At her words, Ji Sung wrapped his arms tightly around her and whispered sweetly into her ear,
“I love you. I love you more. I love you so, so much.”
“Stop it, Oppa—it tickles.”
Ra Hee Chae spoke in an utterly coquettish tone. Her gaze made Ji Sung’s heart feel as if it would burst.
With this woman, he felt he wouldn’t regret betting everything he had.
Ji Sung gently pressed his lips to her forehead. As if to show how sweet his kiss felt, Ra Hee Chae looked up at his face and gave a slight smile. Their passionate, intense embrace continued.

So Myung was frustrated with herself—she kept sinking deeper into gloominess and helplessness.
‘I need to move, especially at times like this.’
To ease her suffocating feelings, So Myung started cleaning. Of course, she was burning with the urge to slap Ji Sung—she was furious and deeply hurt.
But ten years of living together had forged an unspoken mastery between them: they never held onto resentment for long, which was precisely why their fights never lasted.
Whenever they were angry, they talked things through, and afterward, they’d promised never to bring the issue up again.
‘Right. He’ll keep his promise today. It’s not just something I want—he wants it too.’
After finishing the cleaning, So Myung’s mood lifted slightly. She glanced at the digital clock hanging in the living room.
The time was nearing midnight. Suddenly, sadness washed over her.
‘He’s breaking his promise again today.’
She got into bed and tried her best to sleep, though sleep wouldn’t come. After dozing off for a while, she jolted awake at the sound of someone entering the front door code.
She checked her phone on the bedside table—it was 3 a.m.
Ji Sung stumbled in as if drunk, quickly stripped off his clothes and tossed them onto the living room floor, then came straight into the bedroom and immediately fell asleep.
So Myung, angry and about to wake him, changed her mind upon seeing him snoring loudly with his mouth wide open, deciding to talk to him tomorrow instead.
Her chest felt so tight she thought she’d go mad. She stayed wide awake all night and only managed to drift off just before dawn. When sunlight touched her window, So Myung slowly opened her eyes.
Instinctively, she checked the spot beside her—but Ji Sung was already gone. Though they clearly lived together, she felt as lonely as if she were living alone.
‘What on earth is wrong?’
He used to be the kind of man who made her believe he’d do anything just to have her by his side… the kind of man who’d looked at no one but her, making her wonder if anyone else in the world could ever love her as much.
So Myung’s chest felt unbearably tight—nothing seemed to hold her attention. She shot up, took a shower, got dressed, and rushed out the door without a second thought, heading straight for the underground parking lot and getting into her car.
She’d told herself to stop thinking about him—but all day long, she ached from thoughts of Ji Sung.
Unconsciously, she shook her head firmly.
‘I’ll stop thinking about him now.’
She turned the ignition, drove out of the underground parking lot, and as she drove, she felt her mood improve slightly.
She was so suffocated she wanted to confide in someone—but had no one to tell.

Though she was usually a chatty daughter who shared everything with her mother, she knew her mother would be heartbroken if she found out—so she firmly resolved never to say a word.
As she wondered where to go, she suddenly remembered something she’d failed to buy last time.
Pressing harder on the accelerator, she sped up and drove off.
After driving for a long while, her destination appeared in the distance. A large sign read, “Parot Parot Farm.” This place, brimming with potted plants, was her absolute favorite.
So Myung quickly got out of the car and hurried into the nursery. As she walked toward her usual spot, she noticed a tall man in a suit standing right in front of her favorite shop.
It was an unfamiliar sight for a weekday morning, so So Myung found herself staring without realizing it—and then she felt she’d seen him somewhere before.
‘Who is that? Is he a celebrity? No… but I’ve definitely seen him somewhere. Ah!’
She suddenly remembered the astonishingly handsome man she’d seen at Ji Sung’s company.
‘He seemed pretty high-ranking… I should say hello.’
Cautiously, So Myung approached him.
Do Ha had finally managed to carve out some time and was carefully choosing plants in the nursery when he spotted a familiar-looking woman walking toward him from afar.
He stared at her in utter surprise—but she looked right at him and spoke first.
“Hello.”
Taken aback by her sudden greeting, Do Ha stood stunned for a moment before snapping back to reality and returning her greeting.
“Oh… hello.”
“I couldn’t properly greet you back then.”
“Hmm?”
“I’m the wife of Team Leader Ji Sung An from the Construction Division’s Design Team.”
She bowed respectfully.
He hadn’t gotten a good look at her face that time, but seeing her up close today left Do Ha utterly startled.
She had fair, flawless skin, large beautiful eyes, and a straight, elegant nose—a truly stunning face.
Her actual appearance was so different from what he’d imagined that Do Ha was momentarily shocked, though he quickly regained his composure.
“Oh… I see. I’m Do Ha Cha, Managing Director of the Construction Division.”
He spoke in a low voice. Now her identity was finally clear—thankfully, she wasn’t a stalker.
So Myung looked at Do Ha with a gentle smile.
‘Wow, he’s a managing director? I didn’t expect that… amazing.’
At her smile, Do Ha replied with a cold, icy expression.
“I’ll be going now.”
So Myung felt concerned—his expression looked both angry and completely blank.
She went inside and picked out the largest Areca palm she could find—the very one she’d been longing for.
After placing the pot—which was bigger than her own body—into the back seat, orienting its leaves toward the front, she felt a surge of satisfaction.
For a brief moment, her worries vanished and she felt happy. To So Myung, houseplants were as precious as friends.
Her heart fluttered at the thought of going home to repot it. Her mind buzzed with positive affirmations.
‘Everything will work out. Yes, it absolutely will.’
As she struggled out of the elevator, lugging a pot nearly her own size, a cold voice called out.
“You’re back?”
“Mother, you’re here?”
Peeking her face out from behind the plant, So Myung greeted her mother-in-law, Madam Jung.
Madam Jung was a refined, elegant middle-aged woman who looked younger than her age.
Seeing the enormous pot So Myung had brought, Madam Jung’s face twisted in displeasure. Her anger was plain to see—she made no effort to hide it.
“How long do you plan to keep me waiting?”
“Oh, I’m so sorry, Mother.”
So Myung set the pot aside, entered the passcode, and said,
“Please, come in, Mother.”
Madam Jung glared at the pot beside So Myung for a moment before stepping inside.
She immediately sat down on the sofa and began scanning every corner of So Myung’s home with hawk-like scrutiny.
Sensing Madam Jung’s mood, So Myung quickly carried the pot to the veranda, then hurried back to the living room, smiling as she asked,
“Mother, would you like some tea? Or coffee?”
“Never mind that—just sit down.”
“Yes.”

So Myung sat on the sofa, carefully watching Madam Jung’s expression.
“Didn’t I tell you to stop fussing over these plants? Don’t you realize this isn’t the time for you to be lugging around such huge pots? You ignored me for ten years when I told you to quit that company… I finally thought you’d listen, and now you’re ignoring me again because of these weeds?”
“It’s not like that, Mother.”
“Don’t talk back. This is exactly why I was against it in the first place. What’s so great about it? Am I asking too much? Everyone else gets to have a child—why can’t you? Aren’t you going to take better care of yourself?”
“Mother… when you say things like that, it really hurts. It’s so hard for me.”
“Are you the only one suffering? Watching you like this is even harder for me. Ugh! Anyway, if I ever see you carrying something this heavy again, I’ll get rid of all your plants. You hear me?”
After glaring at So Myung, Madam Jung slammed the front door shut and left. Left alone, So Myung felt utterly pitiful.
Dealing with Madam Jung, who had never really approved of her, had always been difficult—but she’d endured it for Ji Sung. Now, though, enduring it felt impossible.
It seemed as if no one was on her side. She tried to steady her breath to hold back tears—but it was useless. Clear tears streamed endlessly down her cheeks.
As she sat leaning against the sofa, night fell without her noticing. Ji Sung hadn’t called even once.
In the dark, sitting alone in silence, she heard the sound of the door code being entered—and Ji Sung walked in, drunk as usual yet again.
Startled to see So Myung hunched in the dark living room, Ji Sung exclaimed,
“Whoa! You scared me! So Myung?”
So Myung looked at him and said seriously,
“We need to talk.”
Her voice was heavy and low. Ji Sung looked at her with bleary eyes and muttered,
“Ugh… I’m really tired.”
