Lee Hyun furrowed his brows as he watched Yura walking away, her shoulders slumped.

He held himself back from rushing over immediately, even as he saw her entering a café with her mother-in-law, Young Eun. To Lee Hyun, Yura was someone he wanted to shield from every storm in the world.

He wished she’d never get hurt again—not because of others, and certainly not because of family. Yet he also knew there were times to step forward, and times to stay back.

“No. Is something going on?”

Thus, Lee Hyun could only ask once again, pretending he knew nothing at all.

-No. I just wanted to hear your voice.

And so, Yura refused to reveal anything until the very end.

If he’d shown up at that moment, she’d only feel guilt and shame—and he’d rather burn inside himself than make her feel that way.

“Haven’t you finished work yet? It should be about time.”

-I just have a few things left to wrap up.

He knew he had to keep pretending ignorance, yet her drooping shoulders and weary voice made it utterly impossible to leave things as they were.

“But where have you been?”

-Huh?

Caught off guard by the sudden question, Yura’s eyes widened. Lee Hyun had always been like a hero to her—appearing out of nowhere whenever she felt troubled or overwhelmed.

At that very moment, she didn’t care at all whether he’d seen something or knew anything. All she wanted was to see him.
