Yura didn’t drink the coffee Secretary Kim had handed her; she just stared at the cup. Her mouth felt dry and her chest heavy—it didn’t seem like the coffee would easily go down her throat.

Yura had come to see Lee Hyun on a whim, and upon hearing he was in a meeting, decided to wait until it ended.

It had been roughly thirty minutes since she’d assured Secretary Ahn it was fine and stayed put, after being told it might take a while. Just then, the sound of hurried footsteps approached, and Lee Hyun entered through the office door.

“What’s going on?”

Yura looked at Lee Hyun’s slightly flushed face with calm eyes. Though she had a clear reason for coming to see him, she ended up saying something completely different.

“Nothing. I just couldn’t even see you leave for work this morning.”

“Did you miss me?”

Under normal circumstances, she should have scoffed at that teasing remark, but right now she didn’t have the energy. With a headache threatening to split her skull open, Yura simply answered Lee Hyun’s playful question honestly, without protest.

“Yeah.”

At a moment when a sharp retort should’ve followed, Yura’s unnervingly calm reply made Lee Hyun’s eyes narrow slightly. Something about her felt off compared to usual, and he couldn’t shake an uneasy feeling.

He hadn’t received any unusual reports from his bodyguards either. She had simply gone to Songrim as usual that day and returned after an outside meeting. Nothing during that time seemed problematic.

“You came because you missed me, huh?”

Hearing Yura repeat his jokingly spoken truth as if savoring it, Lee Hyun folded his arms across his chest and perched himself on the edge of his desk.

“What kind of game is this now?”

“It’s a joke. I just thought we could grab lunch together—it’s been a while.”
