After dinner, Young Eun urged them to stay, but the two of them flatly refused and returned home. Throughout the entire ride back, Yura didn’t say a single word to Lee Hyun.

She didn’t feel like having any conversation right now; all she wanted was to somehow soothe her wounded pride and simmering anger back into place. Yet, no clever solution came to mind.

Just as the car pulled into the parking lot, Yura finally moved her tightly closed lips.

“I’m sorry, and thank you.”

Her pride was hurt, she was furious, and insecurity made her stomach churn—but this feeling needed to be clearly conveyed. She was sorry for dragging him into such an unpleasant situation, and grateful that he’d stood firmly on her side like a shield.

Unable to even look at Lee Hyun, she kept picking at her nails aimlessly—until his large hand tousled her hair.

“That’s just what spouses do.”

A lump suddenly rose in her throat.

The fact that she and this man were now married finally felt real. Out of all the men in the world, maybe choosing him had been her stroke of luck after all.

As soon as they stepped inside the house, Yura was suddenly overwhelmed by exhaustion. With slumped shoulders, she shuffled toward the kitchen when Lee Hyun asked in his usual calm tone,

“Have you eaten dinner?”

Yura glanced at the clock hanging on the wall. It was already well past dinnertime. Judging by the absence of any signs of life, the housekeeper had probably gone home. That meant she’d have to prepare dinner herself.

Making dinner was actually simple—there were always a few light meals kept in the fridge, just in case they needed a late-night snack.

All she needed to do was take them out, but the problem was she felt mentally drained and couldn’t even lift a finger.
