The western sky was turning red.

Bunhongi had prepared boiled eggs and chicken breast as a special treat, but it seemed they wouldn’t come today after all. Da Jung glanced outside the terrace just in case, but there was no sign of them.

She knew this cat had its own routine and rarely visited more than once a day.

What kind of feeling was it, really, to prepare something like this knowing they wouldn’t show up? It would be selfish indeed to wait expectantly and then feel disappointed when they didn’t come.

She cracked open a boiled egg and leaned back into the sofa with the best view outside. The sky in the west was already glowing red—it was her first meal of the day, eaten only now.

She thought about the land registry extract.

From the moment she’d decided to go on this trip until her arrival, she retraced each step carefully. She reflected on how she’d met Lee Jae Ho, seemingly by magic, and how their paths had become intertwined.

Everything had seemed like a coincidence—yet once she started doubting, it all looked suspicious.

She tried not to jump to conclusions, but her thoughts kept escaping her grasp. Had he experienced meetings like this often?

What was his real purpose in buying this pension?

Maybe there had been an unavoidable reason he couldn’t reveal he was the landlord. Da Jung kept trying to imagine reasons that would put him in a good light, but nothing came to mind.

She held her trembling hands still and took a long, deep breath. Before she knew it, her eyes had grown red. She mustered her courage and called him—but he didn’t answer.

As Jae Ho stepped out of the studio after wrapping up filming, someone grabbed his arm. Byung Hoon immediately stepped in when he noticed Jae Ho’s brow furrowing slightly.
