Kyung Jun laughed as if it were absurd.

“You’ve been going on about smells since earlier. Yoon Da Jung. Did a dull kid like you get weird after coming to the countryside?”

“I guess so.”

Kyung Jun took a sip of beer and shared trivial bits of gossip. Most of it came from Kyung Mi and concerned hospital matters. Kyung Jun knew exactly what Da Jung would be most curious about.

He casually rattled off news about hospitalized patients, new mothers who’d just given birth, and even unfortunate pregnancy losses—as if none of it were important—but Da Jung showed interest in every detail. For the first time since arriving here, Da Jung’s eyes lit up, and Kyung Jun smiled brightly, pleased he’d finally captured her attention.

“Anyway, my sister keeps saying how much she’s really suffering and makes a huge fuss about it. She’s been on night shifts constantly lately.”

“She’s doing all my work on top of her own. I feel so guilty toward my sister I could die.”

“Hey, cut it out. Don’t feel guilty.”

Kyung Jun waved his hand dismissively, rejecting her apology.

“Just leave it. She’s doing it because it makes her feel better. Our sister still thinks about Woo Jung hyung—that’s exactly why she’s pushing herself extra hard to take care of you.”

Da Jung and Kyung Jun’s parents had all been high school classmates. They married around the same time and deepened their bond further by having their first and second children in the same year. In fact, before Da Jung and Kyung Jun even existed, there had already been Yoon Woo Jung and Lee Kyung Mi. The two families had been so close that jokes about becoming in-laws often slipped out from the parents’ lips.

“How silly. Why does she still carry on like that?”

Da Jung murmured softly. Then, borrowing courage from the beer, she added one more sentence.

“What kind of relationship did Oppa and Unnie have back then?”

It was a question she’d never dared to ask outright.
