A confused emotion floated onto Karayan’s distorted face.

“The prince surely knows well enough what the Holy Maiden is, even without me having to explain it, right? And you understand that if anyone finds out a Holy Maiden has been born, war will break out.”

Levanfel slowly released my wrist. Then, stroking his own throat, he slowly approached Karayan.

“At first, they’ll welcome the Holy Maiden, but soon after, they’ll start scheming about how to exploit her for their nation’s gain. To keep her from falling into others’ hands, they might imprison her—or even dissect the Empress under some absurd pretext, like that ridiculous theory about creating the World Tree, claiming they’re researching her divine power.”

Huh? Dissect? Did he really say dissect? I hastily hugged myself, shaking my head frantically with a terrified expression.

“…Can you honestly swear you wouldn’t do such a thing, Your Majesty?”

“The Prince of Lupeon is naive.”

Levanfel and Karayan stood facing each other so closely their noses nearly touched. An intense killing intent radiated from both, filling the air with oppressive weight, yet neither averted their gaze.

“If I had truly harbored such thoughts…”

Levanfel tilted his head slightly. His golden eyes, catching the moonlight, shimmered eerily before filling with madness.

“I would have locked you in my embrace long ago, broken both your hands and feet so you couldn’t even dream of escape, and chained those broken limbs to ensure you’d look only at me for eternity.”

That madman! I quickly squeezed between Levanfel and Karayan to correct his terrifying statement.

“People call that ‘imprisonment,’ and imprisonment is considered a ‘crime,’ Your Majesty! You must never, ever do such a thing!”

Get a grip!

I shivered, brushing down the goosebumps on my arms, and gave Levanfel a light slap.
