Our argument fortunately came to a halt due to Jaerim’s sudden appearance as he searched for Levanfel. Jaerim sighed, watching us bicker like children.

“There are many eyes watching, everyone.”

Jaerim gently swept his calm gaze over us and soothed us evenly.

“Your Highness. Everyone is already in an uproar over what happened last night. You, of all people, should know how quickly news from the Imperial Palace spreads outside—so why act this way?”

“It’d be better if the rumors spread. Then I’d take my sister away.”

“Do you not realize that the Empress’s position in the Empire isn’t something that can be dismissed with a simple word of divorce? Moreover, if it gets out that Her Majesty’s elder brother crossed the border without prior notice and summoned a spirit to attack the Emperor, it would be Her Majesty who suffers the consequences—why can’t you see that?”

Stung by Jaerim’s words, Karayan gave me a startled, guilty look. Following Karayan’s gaze, Jaerim also turned his head toward me.

“Don’t call me that, Jaerim. Your nagging already gives me a headache.”

“Then you shouldn’t have done it in the first place. He’s a guest from the Kingdom and Her Majesty’s elder brother. Your Majesty should welcome him warmly with magnanimity.”

“I am, by nature, a cold person.”
