Na Eun checked the window visible down the hallway and saw not a single glimmer of light.

Her mother should have already come home from work and be waiting inside, yet the unnatural silence made it seem as though no one was there at all.

She quietly lowered the hand that had been about to press the door lock and pulled her phone from her pocket.

Without entering the house—or leaving either—she sent a message to her mother through the messenger app.

[Where are you, Mom?]

[I haven’t left work yet. Go ahead and go inside first.]

The reply came faster than expected. Ah, so she was still at the office.

Relief made her shoulders sag, yet a small seed of doubt kept bubbling up in her mind.

That’s strange. Her mother always made sure to leave work early and be home first on days when Na Eun said she’d be coming back. As the company owner, there was no way her mother would be held back by her superiors.

Even if it were just because she was busy with work, something sharply insistent in her gut kept urging her not to go inside.

Just in case, she stared hard at a certain app tucked into a corner of her phone screen.

The moment she turned it on, her real-time location would be sent directly to the other person.
