It wasn’t strange that so much work had piled up, considering he had an unexpected hiatus during a time when he should have been very busy.
Although he should have been grateful, he couldn’t help but sigh at the thought of when he would go through all that.
“Did you sort it out as I told you?”
The director asked as if he was grilling one of the company employees.
“Yes, Director. As you requested…… it’s sorted out.”
It was blatantly obvious.
Quality and image aside, they had probably prioritized the profitable matters first.
However, if the purpose didn’t align, she had no intention of proceeding with the matters just as Director Ho intended.
Fortunately, due to her somewhat established position, he couldn’t force things without the actress’s consent either.
“Let’s start the meeting.”
She spoke, looking at the pile of documents stacked like a mountain.
It was only after the sun had set that she left the office.

She took a few scripts selected in the first round through the meeting and returned home.
“You know you have a photoshoot with Reina tomorrow, right? You need to come out at dawn, so sleep early.”
“Got it. See you tomorrow, brother.”
“Okay. Be careful going into the mountain. You worked hard today.”
“I’ll see you tomorrow.”
Samyoung, who dropped off the two, waved his hand and left.
Upon getting on the elevator, Kang pressed the button for her floor and also the one right above it.
San paused before pressing the button and looked at her, and Kang spoke to him.
“Thanks.”
“What’s this all of a sudden?”
“If I hadn’t slept properly yesterday, I wouldn’t have been able to last until this hour.”
“……”
“It’s all thanks to you.”
No matter how symbiotic their relationship, from her perspective, she had given something of no loss to herself and gained something money couldn’t buy.
Therefore, regardless of what benefit he gained because of her, she felt immense gratitude towards him.
San, who had been quietly listening, opened his mouth belatedly.
“That’s because you don’t know how high the value of your dream is.”
“Maybe, because I’m a human.”
“……”
“But I do know this one thing for sure.”
She added with a faint smile.
“You could live without me, but I couldn’t.”
She knew that, so far, the only one who could consume and ‘extinguish’ her dream was San.
That’s why he became her hope.

However, San’s reaction to her story was dry.
“Well.”
Would you still say that even if you knew everything?
Of course, she didn’t voice the latter part.
Because there was nothing bad about being special to Kang.
Seeing that San gave no answer, Kang decided not to talk about dreams anymore.
She was curious if he would leave without looking back if someone with a worse nightmare than hers appeared, but she feared she couldn’t handle it if he answered affirmatively.
In the momentarily silent space.
The elevator quickly ascended to the floor she lived on.
Just before the door opened, Kang spoke.
“So, what I mean is.”
“……”
“I’m counting on you today as well.”
She, who turned her head towards him, checked her wristwatch with a slight smile.

“Come around in about two hours. Is that okay?”
“As you wish.”
San responded lightly, shrugging his shoulders.
Only then could Kang proceed with light steps.
She turned around to bid farewell.
“See you later.”
The elevator doors closed on her smiling face as she waved goodbye.
The way she looked at me was as if she was looking at a lover, and it was amusing.
These days, humans say that honey drips from their words.
For Seo Kang, the reality of not having as many nightmares must have been appreciated.
San knew very well that her feelings would serve as a useful tool for me.
So he was more than happy to make use of it.
With a faint smile, he pressed the elevator’s 1st floor button again.

Considering he might be severely hit like yesterday if he went emptystomached, he thought it would be better to relieve some of his hunger first.
The alley bathed in the flickering streetlights, with the brilliant city night view unfolded behind it.
His eyes glowed faintly red as all his senses started to become keen to detect nightmares.
A chilly aura settled down every alley, and soon, San disappeared into the darkness.

After returning home, Kang took a bath, then skimmed through a few scripts she had brought.
Unable to bear the hunger pangs, she soon opened the refrigerator.
She had cleanly finished a whole container of salad prepared by Sam Young, but she couldn’t put down her spoon, still feeling unsatisfied.
“Why is food so delicious?”
……This is a serious problem.
It was the first time in her life worrying about gaining weight, and she felt quite embarrassed.

Eventually, she took out her phone and started looking at a delivery app that offers latenight service.
Things that she didn’t even glance at before kept catching her eye.
“Does everyone know the national Tteokbokki?”
She became curious about the reviews of the product which recorded overwhelming sales and started searching.
Before she knew it, she found herself watching a mukbang after clicking on a personal broadcast.
Surprised, she quickly put down her phone.
“No, pull yourself together, Seo Kang.”
Kang slapped her cheeks lightly and started filling her shopping cart again.
Even though she tried to cut down, she ended up purchasing more food ingredients than usual.
She found a video of cream pasta made with soy milk and tofu noodles while searching for a few simple diet menus she could cook.
“I can handle this, right?”
She hadn’t had to cook before, but if she didn’t know something, she could just ask Sam Young for advice.
After watching the completed food video, her stomach growled and saliva welled up in her mouth.

Like being drawn, Kang who was heading to the kitchen started rummaging through the pantry.
“She picked up a pack of lowsodium biscuits made of sweet potatoes without hesitation.
Then she continued to look over the script she brought from the company, eating the biscuits.
Time flew by in the blink of an eye.
Sleep was slowly creeping up on her, and when she checked the time, it was almost time for her appointment.
She remembered San’s words to call his name whenever she needed him, but she thought it was a bit embarrassing to abuse it anytime, anywhere, so she decided to leave it.
“Where did I put my phone?”
As she was just getting up from the sofa, the doorbell rang.
She rushed to the door and opened it.
Outside was San, looking just like when they parted.
“Didn’t you change your clothes?”
“…….”
“Where have you been?”
She asked, but he had no particular response.

He just stared straight at Kang.”
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
Here’s the story synopsis:
