It felt like cold water had been poured over her head—her mind snapped awake. Rage surged up, making her hands tremble uncontrollably. Just then, Seo Yeon’s voice reached her ears.

“Mom, is something wrong?”

“……Huh?

Jin Hwa’s gaze turned toward Seo Yeon.

“Your face looks so pale. Are you feeling unwell?”

Seo Yeon was looking at her with a worried expression. Jin Hwa hesitated for a moment. But the flustered look lasted only briefly. After taking a long, deep breath, Jin Hwa smiled and said,

“No, I’m fine. Don’t worry about Mom and hurry up and eat. You’ve lost too much weight lately. Mr. Tae even mentioned it. You said you were on a diet? Your body still hasn’t fully recovered—building strength should come first.”

Then she carefully placed a piece of deboned fish onto Seo Yeon’s spoon and stared at her intently, as if urging her to eat quickly. Seo Yeon’s expression grew complicated at Jin Hwa’s attentive care, like a mother looking after a young child.

At first she had wondered if Jin Hwa was being nice out of guilt……

But watching her take care of her so thoughtfully, it really felt like an ordinary mother and daughter.

Every awkward phone call asking how she was, every excuse he made to reach out—it all felt like effort for her sake, and it left her heart in turmoil.
