Seong Jun’s memory flowed back to the wedding reception.

At that time, the CEO of Han Kyung Construction, who was also Seong Jun’s great-uncle, congratulated the couple on their wedding and invited his wife to have a drink with him.

Offering alcohol to the bride so abruptly. His great-uncle, who had always taken care of the Han family’s difficult tasks and had a generous personality, often expressed his fondness for others in such a way.

The fact that his great-uncle offered a drink meant that his wife had passed the preliminary test he had set.

However, even knowing this, it was not right to make the beautifully dressed bride his great-uncle’s drinking companion on her one and only wedding day.

It was at that moment when Seong Jun turned towards Seo Yeon to intercept her glass. Before he could stop her, Seo Yeon emptied the wine glass in one gulp.

The guests, who had expected her to merely pretend to drink by touching the glass to her lips, wore slightly surprised expressions, while the one who had offered the wine burst into hearty laughter.

Hearing that laughter, it seemed she had instantly gained his great-uncle’s favor with that one action.

After emptying the glass to the last drop, Seo Yeon now poured wine into his great-uncle’s glass, and Seong Jun couldn’t take his eyes off his wife.

‘Does she drink well?’

It was unexpected.

Judging by her appearance, she looked so elegant and pure that one would think she had never tasted a drop of alcohol in her life.

He thought that perhaps he might unexpectedly gain a drinking companion he never expected.

However, exactly 10 minutes later, when he noticed his wife’s flushed cheeks turning pink as the alcohol took effect, he realized his assumption had been completely wrong.

Seo Yeon, not wanting to reveal her intoxication, desperately tried to appear normal, maintaining a smile on her lips. Seong Jun, who had been staring at his wife for a moment, pretended not to notice and grabbed her hand, firmly supporting her so she wouldn’t fall.

“Would you like another glass?”

Seong Jun, finishing his reminiscence, looked at his wife offering another drink with a bright face. “Sure.”

“I’ll pour it for you.”

Seo Yeon said with a courteous expression as she filled the clear glass with wine. Then, after briefly studying Seong Jun’s expression, she cautiously opened her mouth.

“I’m sorry about yesterday. Thinking about it again, I think I misspoke. You must have been quite shocked, right?”

Seong Jun’s gaze instantly sharpened.

Even now, thinking about Seo Yeon’s statement from yesterday brought a wave of displeasure that made it difficult to control his expression. What on earth was she thinking to say such an absurd thing? That it was okay for him to meet other women?

“It’s fine.”

However, Seong Jun didn’t want to bring up that incident again and ruin the atmosphere that had just softened. Seo Yeon breathed a sigh of relief at his response.

“Thank you for coming home early today. I wanted to have dinner with you.”

Seo Yeon turned her gaze towards the wine bottle and asked.

“Can you still drink more?”

Instead of answering, Seong Jun poured wine into his own glass, causing her eyes to widen.

“Won’t you be unable to go to work tomorrow if you keep this up?”

At first glance, it sounded like she was worried, but upon closer inspection, she was trying to persuade Seong Jun to give up now. The fact that she was mentioning work and gauging his reaction was proof of that.

It seems she really wants to win after suggesting the bet where the loser grants the winner’s wish.

“I have no plans to get drunk before you today.”

“You’re very confident.”

“It’s confidence with reason.”

“I thought you didn’t like alcohol?”

“I don’t drink often, but that doesn’t mean I can’t handle it.”

“Are you determined to win?”

“You could say that.”

“Is it because of the bet? You’re not going to keep drinking alcohol you don’t like just because you don’t want to lose to me, are you?”

Once again, she was subtly provoking him, suggesting that it might be better to give up. But Seong Jun wasn’t one to easily give in to Seo Yeon’s wishes.

“I don’t play games I’m going to lose in the first place. I have to win today too. Even if it’s you.”

Seo Yeon, momentarily disappointed by Seong Jun’s answer, responded without backing down.

“I’m sorry, but you’ve picked the wrong opponent, Seong Jun. I’m going to win this bet today.”

Win what exactly?

By the time she said those words, Seo Yeon’s large eyes were already half-closed, and her once-pale cheeks were tinged pink, just like at the wedding reception.

Knowing her alcohol tolerance already, he would have normally tried to stop his wife from drinking excessively in any way possible.

But he suddenly became curious about where her confident attitude was coming from. So he decided to quietly observe her actions for now.

One glass became two, two became three, and eventually, she reached five glasses.

“I’m… not drunk yet…?”

Oh boy.

Finally, even though Seong Jun hadn’t said anything, Seo Yeon started to insist on her sobriety in a slow, drawling voice, as if she felt guilty.

“Ah, right.”

Seong Jun replied in a dry voice, maintaining an expressionless face.

“You’re right. You look perfectly fine right now. You’re drinking very well.”

At this, Seo Yeon pouted. And as if feeling wronged, she said,

“Then why… do you look like that? You don’t actually believe me at all, do you? But it’s true! I’m not drunk…”

She seemed to be properly drunk now.

Seeing her insist in a high-pitched voice she never used normally.

He should certainly dislike it. He should be irritated at the thought of wasting time…

But why did her insistent behavior seem rather cute?

…Damn it.

Seong Jun frowned and rubbed his forehead. He couldn’t believe the thoughts that were arising in his mind.

And the fact that his heart was pounding regardless of his will. He turned his head away, thinking that if Seo Yeon disappeared from his sight, he might not have such strange thoughts. That’s when it happened.

“I’ll show you proof, proof!”

Seo Yeon suddenly stood up.

What now? Why is she standing up? What is she trying to do?

Seong Jun, who had just turned his head away, looked back at Seo Yeon with uneasy eyes.

She took a deep breath for a moment and then opened her half-closed sleepy eyes wide.

And then, looking straight ahead, she carefully started to walk.

It seemed she was trying to prove that she wasn’t drunk by showing that she could walk straight.

“…This is strange. Why isn’t this working? I’m sure I’m not drunk.”

Although her body didn’t seem to be obeying her will.

Seong Jun turned his head for a moment and stared quietly at Seo Yeon with a bewildered expression.

“Seong… Jun? Why are there two of you?”

And as Seo Yeon uttered another nonsensical statement and lost her balance, staggering, he stood up from his seat. And pulling her into his arms, he whispered,

“You wanted to bet, you drunkard. You lost.”

At this, Seo Yeon, who had been half-asleep with drowsy eyes, suddenly opened them wide as if she had come to her senses. And breaking free from Seong Jun’s embrace, she started shaking her head.

“No. No. I’m not drunk yet. I can drink more.”

Seong Jun clicked his tongue at Seo Yeon’s stubbornness.

“What more are you going to drink? If you drink any more, you won’t even be able to get up tomorrow. It’s time for the drunkard to go to the bedroom.”

Seo Yeon frowned as if she didn’t like Seong Jun’s words. Ignoring her, Seong Jun kept his gaze fixed on her and added,

“Can you walk? Ah. Of course not, that’s why you’re in this state. I’ll take you to the bedroom.”

But Seo Yeon shook her head and insisted stubbornly.

“No. I told you I can drink more? I have to win no matter what.”

And she made a very troubled expression.

A sigh escaped Seong Jun’s lips at her stubborn appearance.

She has to win no matter what?

What could be such a great wish?

Seong Jun, who hadn’t particularly intended to lose to Seo Yeon, suddenly felt curious about his wife’s wish.

“Alright, fine. I got drunk first.”

Seong Jun added once more, staring into Seo Yeon’s eyes.

“I lost.”

It was a first in his life. For the words ‘I lost’ to come out of his mouth. He was someone who extremely disliked losing to anyone.

He had lived his life according to his will, boldly giving up even the closest shortcuts because he hated to say that one word, ‘lost’. Even if it was just a light game, once it became a competition, he never lost on purpose.

“Really?”

However, despite her flushed face from intoxication, Seo Yeon’s eyes sparkled as she urged for confirmation, pleased that she had won, and a chuckle escaped him.

He thought it wouldn’t matter if she was so happy about it. Nodding his head, Seong Jun answered in a low voice.

“Yes. Really.”

He gave a sincere answer even though he thought she probably wouldn’t remember anyway.

“Really?”

“Really.”

After receiving Seong Jun’s confirmation two or three more times, Seo Yeon said in a clear voice,

“Then since I won, I can tell you my wish, right?”

Despite being so drunk she could barely stand, she was unnecessarily thorough. He found it amusing that she seemed determined not to lose out on any deal.

Frowning slightly to suppress his laughter, Seong Jun looked down at his wife’s face with an expressionless face for a moment. Then he slowly nodded.

“Sure. Say anything. I’ll grant it all.”

In fact, there was no reason he couldn’t grant it. Whether she wanted to change cars, or have a new villa with a nice view, or even buy an island, whatever it might be, there was no wish in the world he couldn’t grant.

“I want to be with you.”

“…!”

“Let’s be together now, honey.”

“…”

That’s what he thought. Until his wife once again dropped an overwhelming bomb on Seong Jun.

Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away

This is also on my reread list!

This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.

Definitely worth a read, y’all!

The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.

But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.

Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.

I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.

The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.

As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
