After leaving Kwon Seung Joo’s house, Eun Seo packed her belongings and moved into Seon Ah’s home.

“Thank you, Seon Ah. I’ll just stay here for a few days until I find a place of my own.”

While thirty million won might not seem like a huge sum when buying a house, it was more than enough for the deposit on a studio apartment. Of course, she’d still have to pay monthly rent going forward, which would make her already tight finances even tighter—but she didn’t want to worry about that right now.

Right now, being forcibly separated from the man she loved was already more than enough to bear. For the time being, Eun Seo decided to be kinder to herself. She’d deal with all the stressful thoughts later.

“Don’t say that—just stay as long as you like. Settle in properly and stay through Lunar New Year! You can even have tteokguk with us, okay?”

Seon Ah’s mother still seemed deeply remorseful about having driven Eun Seo away earlier under the pretense of her being a niece from her maternal side.

“Back then… well, our Seon Ah insisted that if you did that, you’d become the lady of a rich household, so I just…”

“I understand. Thanks to you, I really had a wonderful time at that lovely place, so please don’t worry.”

Eun Seo didn’t regret meeting Kwon Seung Joo. Even though things ended like this, it had been an experience she’d never get a second chance at in her lifetime. What happened to the apple tree? They must have uprooted it. She’d nurtured it so carefully into a strong, healthy tree—she should’ve at least contacted an orchard to transplant it somewhere.

No, actually… a stupid tree that hadn’t borne fruit in over ten years—and even when it finally did, the fruit was utterly useless—deserved to be ripped right out.
