The end of the year was bustling with all sorts of gatherings and events. Being a business owner, there were more than just a few places he absolutely had to show his face at. On particularly bad days, he’d even have to shuttle between two or three events in a single evening.

[I’ll try to have dinner at home whenever possible.]

Seung Joo now regretted having told Eun Seo that. He wasn’t the type to make promises he couldn’t keep. Though Eun Seo had seemed indifferent to that promise anyway, it still left him feeling uneasy.

He was especially worried today since Eun Seo was sick. At least he’d called her into his office during the day, gave her fever medicine, and let her rest a bit—but he couldn’t be sure if that had been enough.

‘Should I have taken her to the hospital?’

Secretary Choi, who’d seen Eun Seo off after work, said she looked fine and told him not to worry. Yet, until he saw for himself with his own eyes, his mind wouldn’t be at ease. Even while attending the year-end gala for business leaders, seated properly at his table, his thoughts were entirely consumed by the fear that she might be lying alone at home, suffering right now.

He hurried home as quickly as possible, but by the time he finally arrived, it was already nearly midnight—and Eun Seo was nowhere to be seen, having presumably gone to her room already.

“Good morning.”

Only when he saw her bright, healthy face greeting him the next morning did he finally feel relieved. Her skin was once again its usual fair and clear tone, not flushed and feverish like the day before.

“Come sit here.”

“Yes.”

Breakfast was tuna porridge. The woman, who notoriously loved her morning sleep, often struggled to eat anything even when breakfast was prepared for her due to lack of appetite. So whenever he made her something like scorched-rice porridge or porridge-style dishes, she’d usually eat it fairly well—and this was one of her favorites.

In the quiet room, the only sound was that of cutlery gently clinking against bowls, when suddenly Eun Seo spoke up.

“Representative, about the demolition of the Yeon-sa-dong house…”
