After leaving the amusement park, Eun Seo trudged back home alone.

Even after getting off the bus, it wasn’t even lunchtime yet. The sky, without a single cloud, was so brilliantly blue that the autumn-tinted street trees looked even more vividly beautiful. Unwilling to go indoors on such a lovely day, she wandered aimlessly around her neighborhood—and before she knew it, she’d arrived near her alma mater, Korea Girls’ High School.

Glancing casually into the convenience store, she saw Na Eun working alone behind the counter.

“Hey, Na Eun! How are you?”

As soon as Eun Seo stepped inside, Na Eun—who’d been thoroughly fooled by her last time—immediately gave her a wary look.

“Ugh, ajumma, why are you back again? My oppa isn’t even here today.”

“Why else would I come to a convenience store?”

After buying a few cans of beer, Eun Seo sat on a bench in a nearby park and popped one open. The cold beer chilled her to the bone with just one sip, yet it failed to ease the tightness in her chest.

‘Why on earth am I feeling so down?’

Is it because I came home alone on such a beautiful day?

Because it was my very first time at an amusement park, yet I didn’t even get inside?

Her mood was clearly at rock bottom—but she couldn’t pinpoint exactly why. While lost in thought, staring into her murky, clouded emotions like muddy water, she suddenly realized her beer can was already empty.

Just as she reached for a second can, a voice came from above her.

“Wow, it’s seriously pathetic—a middle-aged ajumma drinking alone in the park starting at noon. I swear I’ll never get old like that.”

Na Eun stood with her arms crossed, shaking her head as she looked down.
