It was the seventh day since Eun Seo had started working a part-time job after work. Naturally, she was sleep-deprived and felt drowsy even at the office. Feeling embarrassed in front of her teammates, Eun Seo tried her best to stay alert.

“What the heck, are you brewing poison?”

Seon Ah looked startled, watching Eun Seo pull shot after shot from the coffee machine—especially when she gulped down straight espresso without adding water, only sugar.

“Are you insane?”

“Tsk tsk, how provincial.”

Having downed a triple espresso in just three sips, Eun Seo joked playfully.

“Italians apparently drink it like this. They say they’d be horrified if they saw anyone adding water to their coffee.”

She didn’t want to worry Seon Ah, so she kept the truth to herself. If Seon Ah found out, she’d surely jump up and insist on lending her the money right away, demanding she quit immediately.

No matter who she borrowed from, she’d have to repay it anyway. She couldn’t afford to get used to leaning on others or asking for help—it was a bitter lesson she’d learned from her mother, who left only debts behind.

“But why does your face look so awful? Are you sick?”

Of course, Seon Ah noticed right away.

“I’m just tired. Don’t worry—I’ll rest over the weekend.”

Once she made it through Friday, she’d have roughly enough money. Then she could rest properly over the weekend and return to work refreshed on Monday.

“Alright, I’ll bring you something delicious over the weekend.”

Eun Seo made up her mind: she just had to hold on until Friday.
